Ex-CDC director Frieden accused of groping woman NEW YORK (AP) — One of the nation’s most respected medical experts, who led the U.S. Centers for Dis- ease Control and Prevention, entered a court- room on Friday in handcuffs, arrested on sexual-harass- ment charges after a woman accused him of grabbing her behind late one night last year. Dr. Thomas Frie- den, who for years Frieden informed the public about dangers to their health, sat stone-faced as a judge warned him not to approach the woman, who accused him of groping her on Oct. 20, 2017, in his Brooklyn home. He was arrested earlier Friday on three charges: forc- ible touching, sex abuse and harassment. 9:01 a.m. - A Hermiston woman asked law enforcement to help find her grand- daughter and the granddaughter’s vehicle. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Pendleton police arrested John Asteste Wilson, 43, of North Bonneville, Washington, for driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol) and second-degree disorderly conduct. State court records show Wilson also has a criminal case pending in Umatilla County for first-degree theft. The state accused him of stealing $1,000 or more in merchandise from the Pendleton Walmart on July 14. •Hermiston police arrested Sydney Nicole Riddle, 24, of Hermiston, for posses- sion of a stolen vehicle, methamphetamine possession, unauthorized use of a vehicle and on a warrant for failure to appear. The 55-year-old accuser, who knew Frie- den, reported the encounter in July, and he was taken into custody after an investigation. The judge ordered Frieden to refrain from any contact with the woman and to sur- render his U.S. passport. Frieden was freed on his own recognizance, leaving in a car with his attor- ney. His next court appear- ance is Oct. 11. Frieden leads a health ini- tiative called Resolve to Save Lives, which is housed by nonprofit global health orga- nization Vital Strategies.
