Sorey’s first run put him 87th in the stand- ings with a time of 28.23 seconds, but he responded in the second go with a time of 9.22 that placed him sixth for the round. Overall, Sorey finished 46th in the aver- age with a time of 37.45. Trae Smith of Georgetown, Idaho, won the title with an average of 28.78 and Baker City’s Dun- can Mackenzie finished 10th in the aver- age (38.42). In goat tying, Heppner’s Jacee Currin improved upon her previous trip to the NHSFR, where she finished 120th, and cracked the top 100. Currin had a really good run in Go 1, as she tied her goat in 8.89 seconds to finish 38th, but had some struggles in Go 2 where she finished 118th with a time of 23.16. Currin fin- ished 91st overall in the average (32.05), where Hooper, Utah’s Erryn Hodson won the title with an average of 22.39. Pinch-hitter Pablo Sando- val hit a slow roller toward second base that Gordon charged from the outfield grass. Sandoval was going to beat the play, but Gordon still tried a rushed throw, and Ryon Healy was unable to handle it as it bounced toward the Seat- tle dugout, allowing Duggar to score. Duggar had singled with one out against closer Edwin Diaz (0-3) and advanced when Alen Hanson grounded to the mound. Tony Watson (3-3) worked the eighth inning, and Will Seattle Mariners’ Kyle Seager is tagged out at home by San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey as he tried to score on a single by Mike Zunino during the fourth inning. Smith pitched the ninth for his fourth save. Hunter Pence homered for the first time this season after 125 at-bats and in his 50th game. Pence missed 40 games due to a right thumb injury and had yet to find the home run swing that led to 13 homers in each of the past two seasons. Pence’s solo shot leading off the sixth thumped off the facade of the sec- ond-deck in left field and gave the Giants a 3-2 lead. Chase d’Arnaud and Kelby Tomlin- son also had RBI singles for the Giants. The lead was short as Seat- tle pulled even in the sixth when pinch-hitter Ben Gamel dropped a two-out single into shallow left field and scored Denard Span. PENDLETON 12U All-Stars lose first game to Washington at West Regional Team thumped by Washington 11-1 East Oregonian For the first time in 13 games, Pendleton’s 12U All- Star softball team ended a game without a win. The team, playing as Team Oregon, suffered its first loss at the Little League Western Regional on Tues- day night, falling 11-1 to Washington (Kirkland) at Al Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, California. Pendleton managed only two hits against Washing- ton pitchers Christina Minor and Kya Aldrich, as the duo struck out 10 and allowed just one run in four innings. Pendleton’s only run in the game came in the top of the second inning, when Mad- aline Schumacher drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a single by Lilly Brooks. The team’s only other hit was a one-out single by Mel- anie Boatman in the third inning. Washington’s offense, meanwhile, scored dou- ble-digit runs for the third straight game as it tallied eight hits and drew four walks and three hit-by- pitches to score its 11 runs. Washington scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, starting with an RBI double from Kaidence Cai- ola. After adding two runs in the second inning, Wash- ington worked some two-out magic in the third inning to really take control. With the bases loaded and two outs, Washington strung together three straight hits — a single and two dou- bles — to add five runs to its total. Pendleton had been 12-0 prior to Tuesday’s loss dat- ing back to the team’s first game at the District 3 tour- nament on June 19. (AP) — Running back Todd Gur- ley agreed to a lucrative four-year contract exten- sion through 2023 with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday. The Rams didn’t announce the financial terms of the deal, but ESPN said the extension is worth $60 million, with a whopping $45 million guaranteed. That deal contains the NFL’s largest annual average value for a run- ning back.
