RECORDS Friday, July 6, 2018 East Oregonian PUBLIC SAFETY LOG OBITUARIES DEATH NOTICES WEDNESDAY Sijifredo R. ‘Fred’ Flores Robert W. ‘Bob’ Willard Irrigon August 7, 1950 - July 1, 2018 Hermiston Sept. 1, 1926 - July 4, 2018 11:52 a.m. - Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible dog abuse at a home on West Seventh Road, Irrigon. 6:02 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about more than 50 sheep loose in an alfalfa field on West Fourth Road but without an address. Still, a deputy responded and someone was repairing the fence to keep in the sheep and get them back where they belong. Sort of reminds you of that joke, where the herder said his sheep are loose and asked a guy to help round them up. The guy asked how many sheep, the herder replies about 55. The guys pops back with, “OK then, 60.” 7:38 p.m. - A 911 caller reported a structure fire on East Jefferson Street, Athena. 7:56 p.m. - A caller on Southeast Utah Avenue, Irrigon, reported people were setting off fireworks on Eighth Street and the “parachute is in the tree.” We don’t know what that means, either, but a Morrow County sheriff’s deputy responded while residents set off fireworks all over town. The sheriff’s office received several more complaints about fireworks, including another at this Irrigon location and one at 10:34 p.m. at Northwest Gale and Church streets, Heppner, for people shooting bottle rockets into the trees and power lines by the city park. 9:01 p.m. - Brush caught on fire near a residence on Cliff Street, Umatilla. 9:11 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office began receiving complaints about fireworks. The reports spanned more than two hours and came in from sites in or near Adams, Hermiston and more. 11:11 p.m. - Umatilla police received the first of six complaints about fireworks. The calls came in from various sites and all in less than an hour. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicholas Lee Fisher, 35, of Irrigon, for harassment and domestic violence assault. •Hermiston police arrested Travis Arlen Landon, 25, of Hermiston, for possession of heroin and on a warrant. •Umatilla Tribal Police arrested Justin Robert Burke, 21, no address available, for dangerous drugs, criminal activity in drugs, driving under the influence of intoxicants (controlled substance), open container and refusal to take a breath test for blood-alcohol level. •Hermiston police arrested Jeova Gerardo Guzman, 28, of Hermiston, for first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and violating a restraining order. State court records show Guzman has been the defendant of more than a dozen criminal prosecutions. •Stanfield police arrested Casey Jean Hinkley, 45, no address available, for DUII and reckless endangering. •An Oregon State Police trooper checking angling licenses at about 7:20 p.m. at Hat Rock State Park, Hermiston, caught two men without licenses. One man was on post-prison supervision, according to state police, and the other had felony warrants for his arrest. That man, David Robert LaSalle, 39, of Pendleton, took off running. State police reported the trooper still cited him and J.C. Samuel Thompson, 32, of Hermiston, for fishing without a license. LaSalle also received a citation for misdemeanor fleeing. The state police will forward the criminal charges against LaSalle to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office. •Hermiston police arrested William Eugene Stolz, 44, of Hermiston, for domestic violence charges of second-degree kidnapping, strangulation, fourth-degree assault and harass- ment. Stolz has criminal cases dating back to at least 2000, according to state court records, and has local cases pending for first-degree theft and failure to appear. He died on July 1, 2018, at his home in Irri- gon, Oregon, at the age of 67 years. Fred was raised in Texas and married Angel- ica Cantu on June 22, 1969, in Edin- burg, Texas. They lived in Idaho and Washington before settling in Irrigon, Oregon, in 1983 where he has lived since. Fred was a truck driver, transporting Flores agricultural crops for many years. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking, watching western movies, yard work and gardening. Fred was always there to help others, whether it was working on a project or just listening to anyone needing someone to talk with. He is survived by his wife, Angie Flores; children Sijifredo Jr., Rudy, Gabriel, Israel, Efrain, Araceli, Jose and Adalberto; stepchildren Esmeralda Leon and Fran- cisco Torres; sisters Dom- inga Sandoval, Yolanda Her- nandez and Hilda Barrera; brother Desiderio Flores; numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, neph- ews and cousins; and one great-grandson. Fred was preceded in death by his par- ents; two daugh- ters, Chriselda and Mellissa Flores; brothers Pablo, Pedro Jr., Juan and David; and a sister, Elva. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. at Burns Mortuary chapel, Hermis- ton, Oregon. HERMISTON Fair gets ready to ‘Stirrup Some Fun’ Open class exhibit deadline is July 25 By TAMMY MALGESINI East Oregonian People are encouraged to show off their creativity by entering open class exhibits in the Umatilla County Fair — including everything from clothing, baked goods and sewing to photography, fine arts and hobby projects. This year’s theme is “Let’s Stirrup Some Fun!,” and what better way to do that than share your talents with others. In addition to general submissions, many depart- ments have a fair theme cate- gory — which provides peo- ple with an opportunity to interpret the theme through a project. In addition to the cre- ative arts, open class entries — which are not a part of 4-H or FFA — are available for beef, dairy, sheep, Jack- pot Lamb, goats and a variety of small animals. Projects don’t have to be completed, but they must be pre-registered by Wednesday, July 25 at 5 p.m. Exhibitors need to read department and division rules in the Umatilla County Exhibitors Guide. For those who don’t have access to a computer, assis- tance is available at the fair- grounds office at EOTEC. In addition, local libraries offer computer use and internet access. After completing the registration process, be sure to write down the online con- firmation number. The actual entries for most open class entires, including home economics, arts and creative kids, as well as horti- culture and floriculture, need to be dropped off Sunday, Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds, which are located at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 Airport Road, Hermiston.
