Bail: No bail Last Known Location: Milton-Freewater 11:14 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft from the Athena city shops on North Second and East Main street, Athena. 11:44 a.m. -A resident on South Cold Springs Road, Pendleton, reported the theft of mail. 12:05 p.m. - Umatilla police responded to possible domestic violence between two people walking on Pine Tree Avenue and Powerline Road. 12:18 p.m. - Oregon State Police trooper John Zuzeler was checking anglers at Weston Pond when an older woman fell, striking her head. She was in and out of consciousness and having seizures. The trooper provided aid until medics arrived, and an air ambulance flew her to a local hospital. Oregon man shot by dropped handgun Second body found after SUV crashes into river BEND (AP) — Author- ities say a Prineville man who initially said he was the victim of a drive-by shooting later admitted that he shot himself in the leg when he dropped a stolen handgun in his apartment. Prineville police Chief Dale Cummins tells KTVZ that officers responded to St. Charles Prineville late Thursday on the report of a gunshot victim in the emergency room. He says investigators were skeptical it was a drive-by shooting, and the victim then admitted tell- ing the lie because he’s on post-prison supervision and not allowed to pos- sess a firearm. The .45-cal- iber 1911 handgun recov- ered by police was found to have been reported sto- len from Redmond. LOWELL, Idaho (AP) — Idaho authorities say a second body has been recovered after a vehi- cle carrying six hunters crashed into a fast-moving river last month. The Idaho County Sher- iff’s Office says crews recovered the body of 21-year-old Koby Clark of Bozeman, Montana, on Thursday about 6 miles (9.5 kilometers) east of the community of Lowell. Clark had been miss- ing since May 21 when an SUV carrying six men went into the Selway River and flipped upside down in a remote part of Idaho near the Montana border. Two Georgia men escaped the vehicle and made it to shore. The body of 22-year- old Reece Rollins of Terre- bonne, Oregon, was recov- ered earlier this week. Brothers Raymond and Jesse Ferrieri, ages 24 and 21, of Mahopac Falls, New York, haven’t been seen since the crash. Wanted man hides in attic, falls through ceiling SPANAWAY, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a 47-year-old man wanted on an arrest warrant for a probation violation fell through a ceiling while try- ing to hide in an attic space. The Pierce County Sher- iff’s Department said Friday that the man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on the warrant and for investiga- tion of assaulting a police dog and other charges. Authorities went to a home in Spanaway Wednesday where they eventually discovered the man hiding under insula- tion in the attic. Officers went into the attic and put him in handcuffs. At some point the ceil- ing buckled under the weight of the people and the man fell through dry- wall to the room below. Small town must pay ex-mayor in records dispute RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — The small Frank- lin County town of Mesa has been ordered to pay its former mayor $175,000 to resolve a long battle over public records. The Spokesman-Review reports a state appellate court on Thursday upheld an ear- lier judge’s award to former Mesa mayor Donna Zink and her husband Jeff, who sought twice that amount. The dispute began in 2002 when the city revoked the couple’s building permit. Zink sued seeking records related to the permit and other information. 2:13 p.m. - A young child in Hermiston called 911 and told the dispatcher the call was an accident. The dispatcher asked for a parent to confirm if it was an accident, but the child hung up. Police did not find the child. 6:47 p.m. - A resident on Cobb Road, Milton-Freewater, reported a vehicle hit and killed a dog in front of her house. People got out of the vehicle, dragged the small Husky- type dog to her lawn and left. She also said she took a photograph of the vehicle. FRIDAY 4:23 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of an assault on the 400 block of Northwest 11th Street. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Oregon State Police arrested Brett Ronald Leake, 56, of Helix, for misde- meanor driving while suspended and felony methamphetamine possession. State police suspected Leake was the driver who abandoned a pickup sometime Wednesday outside Helix and left it partially in the road. Trooper Tyler Steele contacted Leake, who admitted to driving and leaving the pickup. He also had a meth pipe, according to state police, and said he used meth. The trooper arrested Leake and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, for the driving and drug charges and referred a probation violation charge to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office. •Milton-Freewater police arrested Jose Alvarez Alvarez, 55, no address available, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Body found in brush hours after rollover EUGENE (AP) — Eugene police say a body was found in heavy brush hours after a roll- over crash in which the suspected drunken driver said he was not carrying any passengers. Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin says the Kia sedan driven by a 22-year-old man rolled off the road at 2:30 a.m. Friday. The man told offi- cers he had been driving alone. After sunrise, a woman walk- ing near the area noticed a hand poking out of the brush. Police responded and found the body.
