LEGAL NOTICE FOR DEIS COMMENT PERIOD
Sunrise Vegetation and Fuels Management Project
The draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for the Sunrise
Vegetation and Fuels Management Project is now available for
public review and comment. Proposed activities include: com-
mercial harvest, thinning, prescribed burning, regeneration tree
planting, transportation system management, and danger tree
removal.
This project planning area is approximately 33,150 acres in size,
approximately 32,000 acres of which are National Forest System
Lands within Asotin and Garfield Counties, Washington.
The DEIS analyzes the environmental consequences of the no
action alternative (Alternative A), the proposed action (Alternative
B), and one additional action alternative (Alternative C) was de-
veloped in response to wildlife needs. The DEIS and supporting
documents are available on the Umatilla National Forests project
webpage at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=45689
This project is subject to comment pursuant to 36 CFR 218, Sub-
parts A and B. Only those who submit timely and specific writ-
ten comments regarding the proposed project or activity during a
public comment period established by the responsible official are
eligible to file an objection. In order to be eligible to object, indi-
viduals or representatives of an entity submitting comments must
either sign the comments or verify identity upon request.
The Forest Service will accept comments on this proposal for 45
days following the publication of the Notice of Availability in the
Federal Register, which is the exclusive means for calculating
the comment period. Commenters should not rely upon dates or
timeframe information provided by any other source. It is the com-
menter’s responsibility to ensure timely receipt of comments (36
CFR 218.25).

After several iterations, the final scope on the Class 3 PMR was
to operate the ORU-2 as a recycling unit and incorporate 22 new
permitted hazardous waste tanks into the permit. Changes were
made to the Inspection Plan (Standalone Document 3) and the
Closure/Post-Closure Plan (Standalone Document 5). New Stand-
alone Document 22 was added to include the operational pa-
rameters of the ORU-2 as a recycling unit and new Standalone
Document 23 was added containing the design and operation in-
formation for the new tank system.
