Johnson 2:29 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a prowler on East Francolin Avenue, but were unable to locate a suspect. 2:53 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a report of a prowler at Go Fish RV Park, 1500 S.E. Byers Ave., but did not find the suspect. 7:22 a.m. - Two large German shepherds tried to get into a sheep enclosure on Southwest Second Street, Irrigon. 10:04 a.m. - Koehler Auto Repair Services, 1200 Airport Road, Pendleton, reported the theft of one of their U-Haul vehicles. 1:43 p.m. - A caller on Southeast Court Street, Heppner, reported someone during the night put toilet paper in the tree and all over the yard. 1:54 p.m. - A Hermiston woman reported her car was broken into while parked at her workplace and her wallet was taken. She said the thief used her bank card twice, and ID and other cards and cash also were taken. 6:34 p.m. - Morrow County Sheriff’s Office took a report of four people fighting at the Sub Zero Restaurant & Lounge, 100 Highway 730, Irrigon. SATURDAY 6:14 a.m. - A person in Ione suffering from mental illness and despair called for help. 7:20 a.m. - Pendleton police took a report for a burglary on Northwest Despain Avenue. 8:30 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report from a man who said he was threatened with a knife by another man in a vehicle on North First Street, but said he didn’t see the knife in the man’s hands. 9:15 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office office received a report of people shooting at a metal sign on the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge on Riverview Lane, Irrigon. 10:10 a.m. - A car prowl was reported from a resident of West Division Avenue, Hermiston. 5:44 p.m. - A caller reported two people camping in violation of local code at a residence on Southeast 13th Street, Irrigon. 6:26 p.m. - A 911 caller reported a drug deal at the Pendleton KOA recreational vehicle park, 1375 S.E. Joshua Holt is scheduled to return to Salt Lake City on Monday night after receiv- ing medical care and visiting President Donald Trump in Washington. He was released over the weekend following secret, backchannel negotia- tions between members of the U.S. Congress and Venezue- lan officials. Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee traveled to Caracas on Friday to seal the deal with President Nico- las Maduro that would bring Holt home. Corker stressed in an inter- view Monday with The Asso- ciated Press that “nothing was asked, and nothing was given” in exchange for Holt’s free- dom. The couple has been receiving medical treatment in Washington from a team with experience helping peo- ple return from captivity. Corker previously traveled to Venezuela in 2015 only to be snubbed by Maduro. He said he was received more warmly this time thanks to the dogged mediation efforts of his staffer Caleb McCa- rry, who has known Maduro for 15 years. He also thinks the Venezuelan president is feeling “somewhat confi- dent” after he was re-elected a little over a week ago, and may now be looking to recon- cile with his critics by freeing political prisoners and mod- ernizing the fast-collapsing socialist economy. The Trump administra- tion considered the election a “sham” after several of Mad- uro’s top opponents were barred from running. It said Holt’s release will have no change on U.S. policy. Corker said he’s not sure where U.S.-Venezuelan rela- tions are heading and declined to comment on bipartisan leg- islation before his commit- tee that aims to further iso- late Venezuela’s government. He said it’s important for the U.S. to continue to speak out against the “many, many bad things” the Maduro govern- ment has done.
