He is the victim of circumstances over which he had no control. He is a citizen of Luxembourg. His mother was visiting in Germany when he was born and thus he was obliged to give Germany as his birth place when he made out his declaration of intention of becoming a citizen of the United States. “I don’t belong to those Germans and I want people to know it,” he said today in explaining the situation. His declaration of intention had become void because it was made prior to 1906 but he has been granted the privilege of making a new one. 50 Years Ago From the East Oregonian April 5, 1968 A long night in a fallout shelter was just starting when Tina Fix asked SMSGT Theodore J. McNulty to run a radiation test on her over- night kit. Miss Fix and several other students from modern problems classes at Pendleton High School spent Thursday night in the fallout shelter at the Armory, along with several persons from Eastern Oregon and Washington. The occasion was a shelter manager instructor course conducted by Leonard J. Chase and Louis Farnsworth of the Division of Continuing Education, Oregon State System of Higher Education. Tom Campbell, Umatilla County civil defense coordinator, arranged the course. 25 Years Ago From the East Oregonian April 5, 1993 Silhouetted in the morning light, Delamarter Care Center resident Crystal Wachter visits with 2-year-old Allison Frey as 1-year-old Jacob Rawls trots down the hall for a good morning hug. The Grandkids Day Care center at the Pendleton nursing home just east of Pendleton is the brainchild of Beth Delamarter, who wanted to bring the young and old together for the benefit of both. After four years the program, which serves about 40 children, is a huge success, according to director Tracy Gower. Activities, a regular part of the program, are designed to prompt seniors to interact with the children.
