ENTERTAINMENT Saturday, March 10, 2018 East Oregonian Page 3C PENDLETON BRIEFLY Willow Creek Symphony announces free concerts Jazz Club rings in St. Paddy’s Day HERMISTON — The preparatory orchestra of the Inland Northwest Musicians is performing a pair of free concerts. The Willow Creek Symphony includes student musicians and adults from Hermiston, Boardman, Umatilla, Irrigon, Ione, Walla Walla, Athena and Pendleton, as well as some members of the Inland Northwest Orchestra. The concerts are Saturday, March 17 at 7 p.m. at Armand Larive Middle School, 1497 S.W. Ninth St., Hermiston; and Sunday, March 18 at 4 p.m. in the Gronquist Building, 11650 Railroad Ave., located near the golf course in Arlington. While there is no admission charge, donations are accepted. Receptions will follow each performance. The program includes “Melodies by Joseph Haydn,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” arranged by Daniel Walter, “To A Wild Rose” by Edward MacDowell and “Berceuse” by Edvard Grieg. The Willow Creek Symphony is under the direction of R. Lee Friese, music director/ conductor, and Ralph Werner, associate conductor. Founded in 1999, Inland Northwest Musicians provides live musical performances to rural audiences. The nonprofit organization fosters an atmosphere of encouragement and assists musicians in developing their talent. Auditions are not required. For more information, contact 541-289-4696, inwm@machmedia. net or visit www. inlandnorthwestmusicians. com. A full day of musical enter- tainment will be presented by The Pendleton Jazz Club beginning with the world’s shortest parade. The annual tradition is held on St. Patrick’s Day — Saturday, March 17 — at the Rainbow Cafe, 209 S. Main St., Pendleton. Two parades will take place — one just prior to when the Oregon Liquor Control Commission allows alcohol sales to start at 7 a.m. and one at 7 p.m. The parades are rather short in length and brief in duration, said Pendleton musician J.D. Kindle, so observers are asked to not blink — lest they miss it. The event showcases a range of performers, a jazz jam session and the short, but lively, parades. The open jazz jam is from noon until 3 p.m. Musicians interested in taking part are asked to bring their own instruments. Local performers include Imperial Twang, Misty Mouth, James Dean Kindle & The Eastern Oregon Playboys, Medium, Joe Pitt, 200e, Lance Leonig, Murray Dunlap and Lincoln Barr. This year will also feature a handful of visiting guest performers that are Jazz Club associates, including psyche- delic performance art rockers Don’t & Triplet (Portland), desert voodoo-wop couple Dusty & Moira (Joshua Tree, California), and lo-fi folk songstress Monica (Astoria). “The Jazz Club will not be providing a schedule of performances, so please don’t ask,” Kindle said. “Mystery and surprise is part of the deal.” The Pendleton Jazz Club is a private fraternal organization dedicated to the liberation of the mind, body and soul through the power of music. For more than 30 years, the club has been presenting music at the Rainbow on St. Patrick’s Day. For more information, contact Kindle at 541-215- 5650 or jamesdeankindle@ gmail.com.
