COMMUNITY East Oregonian Page 6A Wednesday, February 21, 2018 LA GRANDE COMMUNITY CALENDAR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 EOU features high school artwork East Oregonian The Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University is excited to present its annual “Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition.” The exhibition opens Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the gallery, located in Loso Hall on the university’s La Grande campus. There is no admission charge. Awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. The show gives audiences the opportunity to engage with the work of students from high schools throughout the region. Student artists’ work includes a variety of media. The EOU Art Program faculty juries the exhibit and will present a number of honors. Award certificates, gift cards, sketchbooks and a variety of EOU swag will be awarded to the Best of Show winners in grades nine through 12. Honorable mentions also will be presented with certificates. For the 10th year in a row, the La Grande Arts Commission will sponsor a cash award for an outstanding work by a La Grande student artist. Joining the commission in presenting special awards are three regional art centers, including Pendleton Center for the Arts. The arts center’s s award will be made in conjunction with Pendleton Art + Frame and the Blue Mountain Community College Foundation. The annual event kicked off in the Portland metro area last weekend and continues at select breweries across the state, including Ordnance Brewing in Boardman. The event is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 405 N. Olson Road. The pubic is invited to come experience the excitement, including chatting with the brewer, taproom staff and the rest of the Ordnance team. School raffle includes droid, Barbie house HERMISTON — A hot dog dinner, games, a raffle and an auction are all featured during a fundraiser at Desert View Elementary School. Coordinated by the Desert View Parent Club, the family-friendly event is Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at 1225 S.W. Ninth St., Hermiston. A fully furnished Barbie Dream House and a Star Wars BB-8 Droid are among the raffle items. Money raised helps fund field trips, purchase library books, classroom projects and other things designed to support and enhance student educational experiences. Umatilla library offers museum passes UMATILLA — The Umatilla Public Library recently announced that patrons can utilize passes for admission at the SAGE Center in Boardman. The pass, which can be checked out for a week, offers free admission for up to six people. If the pass is lost, there is a $20 charge. In addition, the library has other museum passes that can be checked out, including for Maryhill Museum of Art, located near Goldendale, Washington, and Tamástslikt Cultural Institute in Mission. Breakfast benefits arts center project IRRIGON — A home-cooked breakfast will help support the Irrigon Multicultural Arts Center project. The meal is Saturday from 7:30- 10:30 a.m. at Stokes Landing Senior Center, 150 Columbia Lane, Irrigon. The cost is $4.50 per person. Agape House sets outdoor sale HERMISTON — A parking lot sale offers a chance to purchase reasonably priced items and help support programs at Agape House. Bins of knick-knacks are you-name-the-price, furniture and bicycles are as marked and clothing is five items for $1. The event is Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at 500 Harper Road, Hermiston. In its 18th year, young musicians will vie for cash awards and possibly be selected to perform in concert with the Inland Northwest Orchestra. The deadline to apply is March 3.
