Haskins Felt Berton Ralph White Heppner July 3, 1924 - January 23, 2018 John Day Oct. 28, 1938 - Jan. 28, 2018 4:51 a.m. - Hermiston police took a report for a burglary on the 2100 block of Northwest Overlook Drive. 9:45 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater caller reported the theft of a handgun from a vehicle on the 900 block of South Mill Street. 10:55 a.m. - Oregon State Police sent a trooper to deal with a stolen gun at a residence in Weston. The trooper found two private parties agreed to trade the gun for a dune buggy. The party receiving the gun called state police Firearms Instant Check System and found the gun was stolen out of Walla Walla County, Washington. The trooper took the gun as evidence. 12:47 p.m. - A 911 caller reported littering on Northeast Eighth Street, Hermiston. 11:14 p.m. - An Irrigon resident on Southeast Utah Avenue reported someone threw eggs at his house. 3:37 p.m. - Staff at the Church Of God, 74 W. Cherry Ave., Hermiston, reported someone left two mattresses and other personal belongings inside the shed on church property. The caller asked to speak to an officer about trespassing whoever did it and having extra patrols through the neighborhood. 4:08 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a disturbance on the 500 block of Southwest 13th Place. Police received a second disturbance report from the location on Sunday at 12:40 a.m. 10:54 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about domestic violence on South Franklin Street, Weston. 11:25 p.m. - Law enforcement in Umatilla responded to a fight at the Riverside Sports Bar & Lounge, 1501 Sixth St. 11:58 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a burglary report on the 600 block of West Oak Avenue. SATURDAY 1:42 a.m. - Umatilla police responded to a fight at the Riverside Sports Bar & Lounge. 3:59 a.m. - Umatilla police searched for a prowler in the area of the Tri-Harbor Apartments, 210 Klickitat St. 8:30 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office heard from a Heppner resident on South Main Street who was concerned the young deer living under her trailer was about to die. She asked what her options are for dealing with the deer, which she said she believed was suffering. 10:34 a.m. - A caller told the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office someone broke into the vacant house at Kincaid and Ione Gooseberry roads, Ione, and broke into a camp trailer as well. The sheriff’s office opened an investigation. 3:27 p.m. - Milton-Freewater police received a report of missing jewelry from the 1000 block of Northeast Third Avenue. 3:36 p.m. - Stanfield police responded to a report of a fight at Banner Bank, 100 S. Main St. 6:34 p.m. - An Irrigon man on California Lane reported someone dropped off a black Labrador at his house, and he would like a deputy to take the dog. A deputy took the dog to Pet Rescue, Humane Society of Eastern Oregon, Hermiston. 10:10 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a 911 report of a disturbance on the 300 block of East Cherry Avenue. Police returned to the same block for a subsequent disturbance Sunday at 2:16 a.m. SUNDAY 2:30 a.m. - An intoxicated person screamed and tried to pick a fight with customers outside the Riverside Sports Bar & Lounge, Umatilla. 5:36 p.m. - The driver of a Ford F350 reported crashing and said she would meet the ambulance at the Chevron station, 101 N Main St., Boardman. The ambulance took her to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston. 5:52 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a juvenile suffering a mental crisis. 7:21 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a report of an assault on the 500 block of Northwest 12th Place. 10:25 p.m. - A person suffering a mental crisis on West Linda Avenue, Hermiston, required an emergency response. 11:11 p.m. - A driver damaged a power pole at Northeast Ninth Avenue and Ward Street, Milton-Freewater, then left the scene. 11:37 p.m. - Boardman police found itself in the middle of a family conflict after a father reported he was following the guy who abducted his daughter alongside Interstate 84, Boardman. The daughter also called, and she reported she was with her boyfriend and her father was following her. Boardman police made contact with both parties and found the father was upset the daughter left with her boyfriend, but the daughter confirmed she went willingly. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday •The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people in connection to a report of a stolen van: Katrina Louise Coffin, 38, AKA Katrina Kunzler, of La Grande, for unauthorized use of vehicle, giving false info to law enforcement, and on a Union County warrant for a felony parole/probation violation; and Mark Christopher Duval, 52, of Irrigon, for unauthorized use of vehicle, two counts of giving false info to law enforcement, felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of oxycodone, and on warrants. •Oregon State Police responded to a report of a pickup with Idaho plates almost crashing into vehicles about 6:45 p.m. on the westbound side of Interstate 84 east of Pendleton. The trooper found the pickup parked a few inches off the fog line near milepost 216, according to state police, and the driver was passed out behind the steering wheel. The trooper knocked until Christopher Earl Dunn, 61, of Baker City, awoke. Dunn claimed he stopped to rest from exhaustion, but the trooper reported smelling alcohol from the pickup and saw Dunn looked impaired. Dun took a sobriety rest and showed more signs of impairment. The trooper arrested Dunn for driving under the influence of intoxicants and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton. There, Dunn also refused to give breath or urine samples and claimed he had medical issues and needed the medicine from his bag in his vehicle. Staff brought the medicine to the jail and called for emer- gency medical technicians. Dunn refused their care and an ambulance ride to the hospital and instead took his medication. •Umatilla Tribal Police arrested Joey Martin Helsley, 24, of Grindstone, Pennsylvania, for felony attempted to elude. Saturday •Umatilla Tribal Police arrested Sarah Ann Pierre, 39, of Mission, for a felony parole violation, dangerous drugs, criminal activity in drugs, and obstructing governmental administration. •Oregon State Police arrested Michael Daniel Reyes, 27, of 47716 Kings Court, Salem, for unauthorized use of vehicle, false information to law enforcement, and failure to display a license. Sunday •Oregon State Police arrested Seth Ryan Charette, 33, of Hermiston, for driving while suspended, driving uninsured and for failing to install an ignition interlock device. The arrest came after a trooper stopped a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a moving violation a little after 6 a.m. at Snyder Road and Highway 37 outside Pendleton and found the state labeled Charette as a habitual offender of driving with a revoked license, and Washington state also revoked or suspended his license. Velma B. Haskins Felt, known as Granny since a very young age, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the age of 93. Granny was born in Dillard, Oregon, on July 3, 1924, to Velton and Vivian Hedgepeth Haskins. She was raised in Merrill, Oregon. She had six siblings, Virginia Moore and her husband Scoot, Lee Haskins and his wife Velda, Delmer Haskins and his wife Peggy, Merle Haskins and his wife Carol, Wes Haskins and his wife Shirley, and Felt Dale Haskins, and all preceded her in death but sisters-in-law Peggy and Velda. She married Axel “Lucky” Felt in Reno, Nevada, on October 25, 1943. Lucky passed away on April 21, 1994, in Heppner, Oregon. During their 50 years together they resided in Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Merrill, Redmond, Gresham, Umatilla, Hermiston and Heppner, all in Oregon, and also Jal, New Mexico. Granny worked at Lewis’s Dime Store, The Dairy Store and then wrapped meat at The Merrill Meat Company, all in Merrill. After moving to Madras, she worked at Erickson’s Department Store, while in Hermiston she worked at Burnham’s Department Store and the Button Hole. After moving to Heppner, she worked at The Fabric Store owned by Jerry and Joyce Holloman. She enjoyed making and decorating cakes for all occasions, always from scratch. She was a wonderful cook with family and friends receiving “goodies” regu- larly. Her joy all her life was children, from her siblings to grandkids, great-grandkids and many neighborhood children. Granny is survived by her son Willard Felt and his wife Susan, and their children Todd, Monica and her husband Kendall, Matt and Jake; daughter Donna Osmin and her husband Al, and their children Jess Osmin and his wife Staci, and Rick Osmin and his wife Amy; 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Granny spent her last 10 years in Willow Creek Terrace Assisted Living and Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date when the weather is better for traveling relatives.
