SPORTS Tuesday, December 12, 2017 East Oregonian Page 3B Saturday Prep Roundup Umatilla boys beat Pilot Rock to win Columbia River Clash East Oregonian UMATILLA — The home court advantage served the Umatilla Vikings well in the championship game of the Columbia River Clash. The host school faced Pilot Rock to wrap up a busy three-day tournament, and ran away with a 50-27 victory. The last game of the tour- nament proved to be a good one as both teams entered undefeated but thanks to the effort from Umatilla’s bigs, the Vikings remain perfect on the season. ——— PR 3 15 6 2 — 27 UHS 12 16 18 3 — 50 PILOT ROCK — B. But the TigerScots were too little too late as they fell 81-53 to the Dragons in the fi nal day of the Kennedy Classic. “They are a very quick, very athletic team,” head coach Brian Pickard said of Monroe, “which caused problems matching up with them. (I) give the guys credit, they didn’t quit and had a much better second-half performance.” Senior captain Brett Speed led the TigerScots (1-5) with 22 points. Matched up against the undefeated Irrigon Knights, Mac-Hi was unable to keep up scoring seven points or less in all four quarters. Senior Kylie Wyant led Irrigon with 14 points in its 62-19 victory. The Knights move to a perfect 6-0 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 1-5. Mac-Hi was aggressive at the rim and fi nished with 28 rebounds — just two behind Irrigon’s total (30). Unfortunately for the Pirates, it was the Faith Bible Cougars that came out of the weekend unscathed. Junior Brendy Avalos led the group with a team-high 13 points and three 3-pointers in the third quarter that sparked a Riverside (5-1) comeback. Down 29-9 at the break, Riverside began chipping away at its defi cit to give the Cougars (6-0) a scare.
