Heppner (5-3 overall) held Corbett to just 98 yards of total offense, while the Mustangs piled up 491 yards in the victory. “We came out pretty sharp and jumped up early,” Heppner coach Greg Grant said. “I think the kids have come a long way. I made us run some plays into their (Corbett’s) strength just to test us and to our credit we made it through.” The Mustangs ran the ball 53 times for 363 yards and two touch- downs, with Coby Dougherty leading the way with 181 yards on 20 carries. Beau Wolters had 54 yards and one touchdown and Jayden Wilson ran for 28 yards and a score as well. Wilson’s more impressive night came in the passing game, where the freshman completed 11-of-18 passes for 128 yards and four touchdowns. Wolters was on the receiving end of two of those and led the team with 51 yards, while Kevin Smith and Logan Burright also hauled in a touchdown recep- tion. The Mustangs led 19-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at the break. Corbett did not score until the fourth quarter. Union’s Alisa Fox earned a first place finish after clocking 19:46.3. The Union boys team always took home the individual cham- pionship with Alex Graffunder claiming the boys individual title. Graffunder was well ahead of the rest of the field, and finished the race in 15:40.9 — five seconds of a new personal best. Heppner’s Hunter Nichols finished in fifth place (17:01.3; 6) to qualify for state for the second consecutive year, and was able to keep up some very fast runners, as the second through fourth place runners finished 30 seconds a part. The entire Union boys and girls squads and the Burn boys team and Enterprise girls team qualified for state. Of the indi- vidual runners, Nichols will be joined by Burns’ Emmett Klus, and Nyssa’s Olivia Page. The state championship will be ran at Lane Community College on Nov. 4 ——— NYSSA 55, UMATILLA 6 — At Umatilla, the Vikings ended their season with their third consec- utive loss, falling to Nyssa 55-6 on Friday night. The win clinched the Eastern Oregon League title for the unbeaten Bulldogs (7-0, 5-0) Umatilla ends 2017 with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the Eastern Oregon League. PILOT ROCK 54, ARLINGTON 24 — At Pilot Rock, the Rockets finished off their first season in 8-man football in a good way, beating Arlington 54-24 on Friday night. Pilot Rock finishes the season 3-5 overall. Arlington ends the season 5-4 overall after a three- game losing streak. VALE 65, RIVERSIDE 14 — At Vale, the Vikings handed the Riverside Pirates their sixth consecutive loss with a 65-14 game on Friday night. The Pirates’ season comes to an end at 2-6 overall and a 0-5 mark in the Eastern Oregon League. BURNS 30, IRRIGON 6 — The Irrigon Knights season came to an end Friday when they suffered at 24-point loss at the hands of Burns. The Knights (4-4 overall, 2-3 Eastern Oregon League) played tough in the first half and entered the break down only 8-6, but the Hilanders (5-4, 3-2) rallied in the second half, and their efforts were too much for Irrigon to stop. “Gosh, we played really really really good in the first half,” head coach Steve Sheller said. “(Burns) came out and had some answers for us in the third quarter and we had answers for them in the first half. They really played outstanding tonight against a team that is always in the playoffs. We’re trying to compete and this Eastern Oregon Leauge play. The kids played well and actually to their credit, we ended up 4-4 while playing a really tough schedule.” Sheller praised the efforts of quarterback Adrian Roa, who threw some really nice balls to Daniel Vera — one for a touch- down and one for a 435-yard gain — and the efforts of the defense, despite them giving up 30 points. Irrigon’s season ended with this loss, while Burns looks forward to the playoffs. WESTON-MCEWEN 22, CULVER 6 — At Culver, the Weston-McEwen TigerScots ended their season on a positive note, thumping the winless Culver Bulldogs 22-6 on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the TigerScots. Weston-McEwen finishes 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the Columbia Basin Conference. MONROE 55, STANFIELD 27 — At Stanfield, the Tigers finished the regular season unpleasantly, as the No. 2-ranked Monroe Dragons handed Stanfield a 55-27 loss on Friday night. The 27 points were the second- most scored in a game by the Tigers this season, but Monroe’s offense was too much for the Tigers defense. Stanfield finishes 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the Columbia Basin Conference, and will prepare for a first round playoff game next week. ECHO 70, HARPER CHARTER 14 — At Echo, the Cougars clinched a spot in the 1A state playoffs by thumping Harper Charter 70-14 in a league playoff game on Friday night. Echo (7-2 overall, 4-1 Special Tiger Woods pleads guilty to reckless driving, avoids jail PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods pleaded guilty Friday to reckless driving in a deal that will keep him out of jail as long as he stays out of trouble, resolving charges from an arrest last spring in which he was found passed out in his Mercedes with prescription drugs and marijuana in his system. Woods spoke only briefly during a hearing at a Palm Beach County courthouse, answering questions from a judge about his plea agreement. Prosecutors dropped a driving under the influence charge for the superstar golfer, and the judge warned him to behave. “This particular plea agree- ment has no jail time on it. He has already met some of the program’s other requirements, completing 50 hours of community service at the Tiger Woods Foundation, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aron- berg said. Aronberg didn’t say specifi- cally what Woods did with the charitable group, but said he met the terms of the deal. Woods also attended a workshop where victims of impaired drivers detail how their lives were damaged. Aronberg said most DUI offenders do not qualify for the diversion program because they have a prior record or were in an accident.
