Blakely and Jake Marin early this morning arrested and took from a special troop train William Dolfen, regimental chief cook who is charged with being an alien enemy. The arrest was made upon the authority of a presidential warrant issued from the department of justice. Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank T. Berry arrived in Pendleton this morning and is returning to Portland with his prisoner on No. 17. He did not divulge the nature of the evidence against Dolfen but stated that the government had sufficient evidence to order him interned for the remainder of the war. 50 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Oct. 27, 1967 A 22-year-old woman was listed in serious but not critical condition at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner Thursday from burns suffered in a vain attempt to rescue the family dog from her burning home near Spray Wednesday. Dorothy Bostwick received third degree burns to her hands and feet, second degree burns to her face and head and other parts of her body in the fire at 9:30 Wednesday morning. She told Morrow County Medical Examiner L.D. Tibbles she smelled smoke while in the kitchen of the home. One child was in school but she though two younger children were in their bedroom, and she went through thick smoke to find them. She burned her hands badly on the bedroom door knob, then found the children outside. When the pet dog ran back into the house she followed in an attempt to rescue it, catching her clothing on fire. The house burned to the ground. The dog perished in the flames. 25 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Oct. 27, 1992 Marlette Homes told Hermiston officials Tuesday that its $1 million expansion is over budget and without the city’s help the project will be moved to Idaho. But following a special meeting of the city council Tuesday, city officials seem confident their concessions will keep the proposed expansion in Herm- iston. Marlette officials told the city this week that the proposed expansion is $200,000 to $250,000 over budget, due in part to city fees for the construction of the new building. At Tuesday’s council meeting, City Manager Ed Brookshier proposed that the city waive the water connection fee of $5,000 and the $5,000 for a back flow for the new building. He also said the city could reduce the water assessment for the project from $10,000 to $5,000. The council agreed.
