He was born January 1, 1955 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Arrangements are being handled by Burns Mortuary, Hermiston. Clifford W. Green, 74, of Heppner passed away on Sept. 5, 2017, at his home. A memorial service will be held on Oct. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Heppner United Methodist Church. He was born Oct. 3, 1942, at Heppner, the son of J. Herman Green and Alma Van Winkle Green. He attended school in Heppner, graduating from Heppner High School in 1960. He attended Oregon State University graduating with a degree in education in 1965. On August 7, 1965, he married Green Lucinda “Cindy” Nelson in Spring- field, Oregon. The couple moved to Athena, Oregon, where he taught agriculture and vocational education from 1966 through 1969. It was there that they began their family; welcoming David in 1966 and Kirsten in 1970. In 1973, the opportunity to return to his hometown of Heppner presented itself, and he moved with his young family to purchase the family business. He owned and operated Heppner Garbage Disposal service for 11 years while pursuing his love for leadership and politics by serving on the Heppner City Council from 1976-1980, and later serving as Heppner city mayor from 1981-1984. In 1984, he purchased the local hardware store, Coast to Coast, which later became Heppner Hardware, which he operated for 20 years until his retirement. He was passionate about the town he loved, and the people who lived in it. This was evident in his involve- ment and leadership roles in numerous community service as well as business commerce promoting orga- nizations. He was active in Heppner Economic Devel- opment, Heppner Chamber of Commerce, Heppner Lions Club, Morrow County Agriculture Museum, Willow Creek Terrace Assisted Living, as well as the local chapter of I.O.O.F. This dedication and service culminated in the Lifetime Achievement award being presented to him in 2003 by the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. When not working and volunteering, he enjoyed hunting and spending time at the family cabin with his friends and family. Survivors include brothers, Lawrence Green & his wife Robin of Sisters; Tom Green & his wife Claudean of Prineville; and a sister, Margaret Green of Prineville. Son, David Green & his wife Candy of Heppner; daughter, Kirsten Harrison & her husband Travis of Lexington; grand- children, Brett Harrison and his wife Jane of Pendleton; Kyle Harrison of La Grande; and Hannah & Ally Green of Heppner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law. The family is asking for memorial contributions to be made to the Cliff Green Memorial Fund at Bank of Eastern Oregon, P.O. Cleda Nusser Coxen Schoonover Hermiston June 2, 1927 - September 20, 2017 Richard K. ‘Dick’ Barnes Elgin October 20, 1946 - September 9, 2017 Richard K. “Dick” Barnes, 70, of Elgin passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at his home. A grave- side service will be held at Elgin Cemetery on Friday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life reception will follow at the Elgin Community Center. Dick was born October 20, 1946, in La Grande, Ore., to Thomas and Naedean (Wiles) Barnes Barnes. Dick was a retired lumberman of 42 years. After retiring he was highly involved with community projects in and around the Elgin area including the Lions Club, Elgin Food Bank, and Rock- wall Grange Bingo. Dick is survived by his wife Bernadette; daughter Amy of Baker City, Ore.; brothers Russ of Kodiak, Alaska, and Stan of Cathedral City, Calif.; and two granddaughters.
