COMMUNITY East Oregonian Page 6A Thursday, September 21, 2017 BRIEFLY PENDLETON ‘A Talk with Teddy’ features Roosevelt re-enactor East Oregonian Local audiences will be treated to a top-notch perfor- mance by Joe Wiegand — a premiere Theodore Roosevelt impersonator. An actor and historian, Wiegand is featured during Heritage Dinner 2017: “A Talk with Teddy.” The event, which benefits the Umatilla County Historical Society, is Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at Heritage Station Museum, 108 S.W. Frazer Ave., Pend- leton. Dinner will be served at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $50 for historical society members and $55 for non-members. According to his biog- raphy, Wiegand, who offers riveting performances as the 26th president of the United States, first started portraying Roosevelt in 2004. Rather than calling himself an imper- sonator or re-enactor, he refers to his role as a repriser. In 2008, Wiegand and his family traveled across the United States in celebration of Theodore Roosevelt’s 150th birthday. Performances at Roosevelt’s New York City birthplace and the White Photo contributed by Mark Glenn Studios Joe Wiegand, an actor and historian, will present “A Talk with Teddy” during the Heritage Dinner 2017. The Oct. 10 event benefits Heritage Station Museum in Pendleton. House highlighted the 50-state adventure. Wiegand even received a letter of appreciation from then-President George W. Bush. “Your spirited performance for Theodore Roosevelt’s 150th birthday celebration at the White House was a great way to commemorate the many accomplishments of our 26th president. I appreciate your help in making the event memorable for all our guests,” Bush wrote. Also, he has been featured as President Roosevelt in “The Men Who Built America” on the History Channel, served as the model for a Roosevelt sculpture at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and has a feature role in “National Parks Adventure,” a film about U.S. national parks. Wiegand performs throughout the year, including special summer tours in Medora, North Dakota, the gateway town to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Several years ago, he started a Gathering of the TRs in Medora, which attracts Roosevelt impersonators who perform and discuss their characterization of the 26th president. Performing and politics come naturally for Wiegand. His father was a stand-up comedian and Wiegand received a degree in political science at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He served in student government and was president of the American Legion Boys Nation program. Before launching his career as a Roosevelt imper- sonator, Wiegand worked as a public policy professional, opinion survey expert and a political campaign consultant. His resume includes working on Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign in Illinois. Tickets for the dinner and performance are available at Heritage Station Museum. For more information, call 541-276-0012 or visit www. heritagestationmuseum.org. For more about Weigand, visit www.teddyrooseveltshow. com.
