Page 8 C VOLLEYBALL East Oregonian/Hermiston Herald Projected Finish 2A COLUMBIA BASIN CONFERENCE ulver and Weston-McEwen controlled the CBC in 2016 and both fi nished the regular season as top-10 teams in the state. But Weston-McEwen showed its true strength in the postseason when the TigerScots won their third state championship in school history. Both the TigerScots and Bulldogs return enough fi repower to be considered the best in the state again this year, but Pilot Rock, Heppner have each improved and should make the CBC a fun league to watch. C Head coach: Shawn White, 15th year Assistant coaches: KC Ashley, 8th year; Mike Giusti, 1st year. 2016 season: 23-11 overall, 6-2 Columbia Basin Conference (2nd); Beat Imbler 3-1 to win 2A state championship. Returning starters: Alyssa Finifrock, MH, sr.; Maddi Muilenburg, MH/OH, sr.; Chelsea Quaempts, L, sr.; Bryce Thul, S/ RS, jr.; Hailey Weaver, RS, jr. Impact newcomers: Tyree Burke, MH, jr.; Amie Coffman, LS, jr.; Keree Graves, DS, jr.; Emma Olson, DS, soph.; Ellie Scheibner, S, soph.; Jesse Manning, OH, fr. Season outlook: The TigerScots lose a lot of big-time players from the state championship squad, but return enough fi repower and gain some new, exciting athletes that should keep the team as one of the best in Oregon again. But with always-solid Culver and improved squads in Heppner, Stanfi eld and Pilot Rock, the TigerScots know they have to be at their best come time for league. White’s key to the season: “All our athletes have shown great improvement from last fall. I am excited about both the strength of our defense and growth of our offense. We should be competitive with anyone we play.” Follow the PigSkin Pickers all sea- son long through our podcast on iTunes, Stitcher or our website at eastoregonian.com/eo/audio. Conf.
