Contributed photo The Western Star 5700XE truck customized for the Paramount mov- ie “Transformers: The Last Knight” will be appearing in the Umatilla County Fair parade on Saturday and on display at Triple M Truck & Equipment in Hermiston before the parade. ‘Transformer’ truck to appear in fair kickoff parade Saturday East Oregonian The Optimus Prime truck featured in “Transformers: The Last Knight” movie released in June will be making an appearance in Hermiston this weekend as part of the Umatilla County Fair kickoff parade. A Western Star 5700XE, custom- ized for the movie, will be on display before the parade at Triple M Truck & Equipment, 77765 Westland Road, in Hermiston from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday before the parade, according to Ryan Medelez, general manager of Triple M. The customized truck travels around the country for promotional purposes at trade shows, charity events and other functions promoting the Paramount picture movie fran- chise and Western Star. Medelez said a standard 5700XE will accompany the customized truck in the parade to allow people to see the difference between the truck customized for the film and the standard over-the-road truck. The Umatilla County Fair Parade, which kicks off a week of fair activities, starts at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Hermiston, heads west on Highland Avenue from Hermiston High School, north on Southwest Seventh Street, east on Hermiston Avenue onto Gladys Avenue, south on Northeast Third Street, west on Main Street to West Locust Avenue, ending at West Orchard Avenue near the post office. HELIX — All students who will be attending school in the Helix School District need to participate in a mandatory registration process. The on-site registration days are Tuesday, Aug. 8 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon. Parents/students will need to complete relevant forms. Also, for students in sixth through 12th grades, the $20 Associated Student Body fees will need to be paid. Students won’t be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities if the fees haven’t been paid. Parents need to bring updated immunization records and physicals, if expired. Physicals must be completed every two years to participate in Helix sports. Lunch fees also will be collected for the coming school year. Story time shines on eclipse ECHO — An upcoming story time at the Echo Public Library will focus on the upcoming full solar eclipse. Oregon author Nancy Coffelt has given permission to reproduce her book, “The Big Eclipse,” and children will get a copy during the program. In addition, special eclipse glasses will be distributed to participants. The free event is Friday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in the old VFW Hall, 210 W. Bridge St., Echo. Extra eclipse glasses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on the morning of the Monday, Aug. 21 eclipse. Main St., Athena, regarding a woman who appeared to be sorting rocks. The deputy did not find the sorter. 7:23 a.m. - Vagrants were camped in a dugout on West Standard Avenue, Hermiston. 7:53 a.m. - Pendleton police checked out several code violations along Southwest Nye Avenue. 12:17 p.m. - Oregon State Police noted an office worker at the Pendleton command center, 618 Airport Road, found a cellphone two weeks ago outside the building. That cellphone is now in safekeeping. 1:59 p.m. - A caller reported a man kicked a child at a site on West Standard Avenue, Hermiston. 1:59 p.m. - Hermiston police also received a request to investigate possible elder abuse and drug activity at a home on East Dogwood Avenue. 2:06 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male with a gun at the Sand Station Recreation Area off Highway 730 about 10 miles east of Umatilla. 3:20 p.m. - A resident on Baxter Road, Hermiston, reported someone dumped four to six tires onto the ease- ment of his property. 3:23 p.m. - Stanfield police responded to a report of domestic violence on the 200 block of West Coe Avenue across from the fire station. 3:35 p.m. - Pendleton police Sgt. Roger Youncs assisted Pilot Rock police in contacting a woman for dumping her garbage at a business in Pendleton. 4:24 p.m. - A Pendleton resident told police someone threw eggs at her vehicle during the night on Northwest Seventh Street. 6:52 p.m. - A crisis team in Pendleton responded to a person suffering from mental difficulties. 6:53 p.m. - Umatilla police checked into possible animal neglect on Dos Palos Court.
