Kelso Gloria Maeree Cross Hermiston December 3, 1940 - June 29, 2017 Pendleton July 6, 1947-July 6, 2017 2:41 a.m. - A Hermiston man reported a black pickup driving erratically followed him home on West Hartley Avenue, then left toward the Eastside Market, 582 E. Main St. 8:44 a.m. - An employee of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife reported the theft of a state-owned trail camera from the area of the headwaters of Pearson Creek. 11:57 a.m. - Someone keyed a man’s car on Northwest Third Street, Hermiston. 3:45 p.m. - Emergency agencies in Morrow County responded to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 by Boardman on reports of a vehicle that left the road and may have struck a fence. Police and fire did not find any crash. 3:49 p.m. - A Hermiston woman asked to speak to police after she tried to buy a dog online from a seller in Richmond, Virginia, and was scammed out of $695. 3:52 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of mail theft involving graduation money and cards on Southwest 42nd Street. 3:58 p.m. - A Hermiston man told police his granddaughter stole his credit card and made $100 worth of online purchases. He asked what can be done about this. 4:49 p.m. - Umatilla police took a report of a burglary on Third Street. 5:46 p.m. - A Heppner woman reported a man in another state is bullying and harassing her via the internet and her phone. 6:05 p.m. - A Milton-Freewater man reported the theft of tools, a jack and a car buffer from the 200 block of Northeast 14th Avenue. 7:26 p.m. - Stanfield police responded to Fort Henrietta Park and Campground, 10 W. Main St., Echo, for a disturbance between a man and a woman. He threatened to burn down the trailer they were in, according to the caller. Police decided ultimately this was a civil problem. 8:31 p.m. - A caller on West Locust Avenue, Hermiston, reported a male was hurting a female, then disconnected. 9:03 p.m. - An opossum was stuck in a basement on Northwest Carden Avenue, Pendleton. 9:37 p.m. - Pendleton fire responded to a grass fire near Club 24, 1845 Westgate Place, Pendleton. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Oregon State Police arrested David Lloyd Thompson, 47, of Knoxville, Tennessee, for driving under the influence of intoxicants (controlled substances). •Hermiston police arrested Zenon Gutierrez Borjas, 28, of Hermiston, for possession of methamphetamine and the domestic violence charge of fourth-degree assault. SCHOLARSHIPS & HONORS Ukiah senior awarded scholarships UKIAH —- Christina Combs, a 2017 Ukiah graduate, has been awarded the Walt Scroggins Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, and a $200 scholarship from the Morrow County 4-H Leaders Council. Both awards were based on academic, community involvement, and social merit and will be used to help Combs pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Combs has enrolled in Blue Mountain Community College for the Combs coming fall in the agricultural sciences program and hopes to participate in collegiate FFA. She will continue her studies at OSU for graduate school. WSU gives out spring degrees PULLMAN, Wash. — Lydia Terjeson of Pendleton and Selene Torres-Medrano of Umatilla received under- graduate degrees during spring 2017 commencement exercises at Washington State University. Terjeson was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in hospitality business management. Torres-Medrano gradu- ated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. Carl E. Kelso, 76, of Hermiston (formerly of Meacham) died on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Carl was born December 3, 1940, in Webb City, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Beulah (Lewis) Kelso. At the age of five, he moved to Pendleton where he attended school and graduated from Pendleton High School in the late 1950s. He lived in the Meacham area for over 30 years until moving to Hermiston three Kelso years ago. Carl worked for Marlette Homes for many years. He then worked for the State Highway Department doing road maintenance until retiring. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Hermiston where he was past president and also was State Father. Carl married Virginia Burton in Pendleton on February 23, 1985. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Virginia of Herm- iston; six stepchil- dren; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Burton; a son, Dan Burton; and grand- children Brandon and Wesley. At his request, no services are planned.
