TV TIME East Oregonian Page 6A Thursday, July 6, 2017 BRIEFLY COMING EVENTS THURSDAY, JULY 6 M-F artist creates Caledonian design ATHENA — The Athena Caledonian Games announced a special project, the Tree of Life Blanket, was created specifically for this weekend’s event at Athena City Park. Milton-Freewater artist Jeanann Mitchell became intrigued with the Celtic knot of Scottish origin. And, in 2005, she designed the Tree of Life for the Athena Caledonian Games. Mitchell developed it to be adorned with Scottish bagpipes, a thistle, Highland dancing shoes, sheep and dogs — all Scottish images of Highland Games like Athena’s, hanging in a beautifully crafted tree with Celtic knots as leaves. Also, there’s a little fairy seated on a branch of the Tree of Life because Caledonian is a wee bit magical, said Sue Friese, Athena Caledonian Games president. The Tree of Life is superimposed over a black and red plaid for a very striking presentation, Friese added. The blanket measures 48 x 63 inches, is made of 100 percent cotton, is washable and preshrunk. It was made in North Carolina by Mill Street Design. They will be available for purchase ($49.95) at the souvenir booth Saturday and Sunday at Athena Caledonian Games. For more information, 541-566-3880, athenacaledoniangames@gmail.com or visit www.athenacaledoniangames.org. Whisky Fest tickets still available PENDLETON — Pendleton Whisky Music Fest is just over a week away — and some tickets remain available. In its second year, the event features headliner Maroon 5, along with opening acts MAGIC!, Runaway June and Little McKay Creek Band, a local group. The gates open Saturday, July 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Pendleton Round-Up Stadium. A few random premium arena seats are available for $175 and grandstand seats are $70. Also, some camping reservations are still being taken. A free kickoff party is Friday, July 14 from 7-11 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Pendleton. It features DJ Sovern-T, who also will DJ between sets at Whisky Fest concert, and The FrogHollow Band, a Walla Walla band that performs original songs and country covers. For more information, visit www. pendletonwhiskymusicfest.com. Contributed photo The Tree of Life Blanket, with a design created by Milton-Freewater artist Jeanann Mitchell, is available for purchase this weekend at the Athena Caledonian Games. Dulcimer Week crescendos with concert JOSEPH — Top national mountain dulcimer performers are featured in a family-friendly concert this weekend in Joseph. From toe-tapping music to American jazz classics, staff of Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas will present the program. Those performing include Stephen Seifert, Rob Brereton, Aaron O’Rourke, Heidi Muller and Bob Webb. The concert is Friday from 7:30- 9:30 p.m. at The Place, 303 S. Lake St., Joseph. General admission tickets are $10 and children 12 and under are admitted free. In 2011, Muller and Webb, who live in Joseph, organized Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas as a way to share their love for the instrument. They also travel throughout the region offering instruction on how to play the American folk instrument. For more information, contact wallowadulcimer@gmail.com, 304-382-9422 or visit www. wallowadulcimer.com. Community Flea Market expects a crowd PENDLETON — The Community Flea Market still has spots available, but people interested in setting up a booth need to contact Pendleton Parks & Recreation as soon as possible. The event is Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roy Raley Park, 1205 S.W. Court Ave., Pendleton. The flea market has grown each year and organizers expect a lot of traffic during the event. Booth space is $20. For more information, call 541-276-8100 or visit www. pendletonparksandrec.com. Annual meeting features ice cream social PENDLETON — The annual meeting of the Arts Council of Pendleton will take on a distinctly sweet taste as the board of directors serves up homemade ice cream. Billed as an ice cream social, the event functions as both the annual meeting that the nonprofit is required to conduct and a fun gathering for members and their families. While invitations were extended to arts council members, anyone who is interested in joining at the $25 per year level or above may attend. The short meeting — which is Sunday at 2 p.m. in Pearson Auditorium at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St. — will be followed by a gourmet sundae bar and refreshments. Children are welcome. The Arts Council of Pendleton, whose board and members serve as the stewards of Pendleton Center for the Arts, was established in 1974, one of the first two arts councils in the state. Members pay a small yearly fee that offers discounts on items in the Pendleton Foundation Trust fine craft gallery, exhibit artwork and classes. For more information, contact 541-278-9201 or director@ pendletonarts.org. WALKING FOR WELL- NESS, 8:30-9:30 a.m., Pendle- ton Recreation Center, 510 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton.
