Welcome to Oregon. 5:40 a.m. - Milton-Freewater police took a report about the theft of trees from the 400 block of South Main Street. 11:31 a.m. - Stanfield police received a call from a female at North Slope Mobile Home Park, 650 N. Lucy St., who wanted her ex-boyfriend to leave when he would not. 11:48 a.m. - Pilot Rock emergency services responded to Rockwell and Shaw roads, Pilot Rock, for a two-vehicle head-on crash. 6:31 p.m. - Pilot Rock police contacted a resident on Southeast Elm Street concerning tall weeds and grass. 10:12 p.m. - Umatilla police responded to a residence on Columbia Boulevard on a 9-1-1- report of domestic violence. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Sunday •The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ryan Michael Lowe, 29, of Irrigon, on domestic violence charges of harass- ment, strangulation, and kidnapping. Monday •Milton-Freewater police arrested Curt Allen Blasch, 38, of 392 Raspberry Loop, Milton-Freewater, for violating a restraining order, violating probation, and domestic violence charges of fourth-degree assault, strangulation, interfering with making a report to police, and harassment. •Oregon State Police arrested a Milton-Freewater woman after she left Highway 11 and came back on going the wrong way. State police Lt. Mike Turner said a black Kia Optima at about 3 p.m. was southbound on Highway 11 about 2 miles north of Pendleton when it drove into a field. The Kia returned to the highway, he said, but going the wrong way on two flat tires. Turner said not too long after, the car crashed, and a trooper arrested the driver, Zenia Alexandria Charles, 22, for driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol), reckless driving, hit-and-run for property damage and nine counts of recklessly endangering another person. Turner said the recklessly endangering charges stem from drivers who Zenia almost hit while going the wrong way. SCHOLARSHIPS St. Anthony volunteers award scholarships PENDLETON — Each year, CHI St. Anthony Hospital volunteers donate their time to raise money for education scholarships for students pursuing health-related career goals. Nine local students were recipients for the 2017 awards of $1,000 each: Clancy Deutz, studying to become a nurse at Gonzaga Univer- sity in Spokane; Lincoln Johnson, Pendleton High School, who plans to become an imaging technologist; Brooke Lapp, Pendleton High School, who will study to become a nurse; Caiden Marks, Griswold High School (Helix), who wants to become an orthopedic surgeon; Kristin Mascall, studying nursing at Walla Walla Community College; Kevin Murray, Heppner High School, who will study pharmacy; Charla Simons, a nursing student at Oregon State University; Rebecca Wagner, studying nursing at Gonzaga University; and Austin Zaugg, Pendleton High School, who wants to become a physical therapist. Johnson WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7 Lapp Marks HERMISTON — Eight Hermiston seniors were awarded $500 scholar- ships by the Knights of Columbus May 28 during the Baccalaureate Mass at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. The scholarship committee received 14 applications for scholarships and conducted personal Murray interviews with each applicant. Receiving scholarships were Devyn Tarvin, Diana Esparza, Jaycee Ternes, Killie Zepeda, Ben Pihl, Grace Klein, Emily Ferguson and Vanessa Mendoza. Iris became a founding member of “The Mason Lake Piano Quartet,” which provided concerts in many venues in the area. When her beloved husband died, Iris composed a moving piano tribute to him and played it at her husband’s celebra- tion of life. Iris was a member of the Esther Reed Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Meeting House Hill Chapter of the Colonial Dames of XVII Century. Iris was preceded in death by her husband Ken, her daughter Kathy Howard of Spokane, great-grandson Porter Rudd, and sister Mary Roy Wilson. Survivors include her sister, Dr. Janet Roy Norby; her two sons Don (Diane) Little and Brian (Julie) Little of Aberdeen; four grandchil- dren: Becky Rudd (Mike), Darcie Dingman (Andy) of Spokane, Dana York (Mike) of Olympia and Drew Little (Sarah) of Aberdeen; and by five great-grandchildren: Joey Dingman, Emily and Tyler Rudd, Kaitlyn York, and Madilyn Little. A family memorial will be held in Pendleton at Olney Cemetery on June 10, 2017. COMING EVENTS Knights of Columbus award scholarships WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7 Iris Roy Little, age 87, died peacefully at Channel Point Village in Hoquiam, Wash- ington, on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Born November 10, 1929, in Pilot Rock, Oregon, to Marvin and Mildred Roy, Iris attended Pendleton High School and graduated in 1947. Following that she enrolled at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, and graduated from there with a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1951. For her Senior Final, Iris performed Beethoven’s First Little Piano Concerto to great acclaim. The following year Iris taught band and choir in John Day, Oregon. While attending college Iris met her husband of 62 years, Kenneth W. Little. They were married in Pendleton on June 8, 1952. The newlyweds then headed to Chicago so that Ken could complete his work toward a master’s degree from George Williams College. While they were there, Iris worked in the alumni office of the University of Chicago. Iris resumed her teaching career in 1969 when she took a position at Montesano High School, teaching choir and American history before retiring in 1992. Iris and Ken retired to Mason Lake where they both enjoyed the lifestyle it provided.
