But as Stanfi eld came to bat in the bottom half of the third, there was no nerves or worries amongst the players. With the lineup turning over for the second time, Stanfi eld knew that the hits and runs 3A were coming, though Quarterfi nals it likely did not envi- sion just how many did come. The Tigers took 17 #9 Taft at-bats and compiled eight hits to score a whopping 12 runs in the third inning to fl ip the defi cit into a 12-5 #1 Stanfi eld lead. And Stanfi eld wasn’t done, as it tacked on eight more runs to eliminate Taft with a 23-11 victory and advance the home-team Tigers back to the state semifi nals. “It was amazing,” senior Klay Jenson said of the comeback. “It helps us that we have that mentality that we can come out and score runs on anyone, it doesn’t matter if we’re down fi ve or down 10. Bekah Roe led them on offense See SOFTBALL/2B Sports shorts Chip Kelly joins ESPN as analyst (AP) — Former Oregon coach Chip Kelly is joining ESPN as a studio analyst next season. ESPN announced Friday it has signed Kelly to a multiyear deal. Kelly will primarily be part of Saturday pregame, halftime and wrap-up shows on ESPN2. He will also provide NFL analysis on Sundays during SportsCenter. The 53-year-old Kelly spent the last four seasons in the NFL, coaching the Philadelphia for three years and San Francisco for one. Kelly Kelly was fi red by the 49ers after going 2-14 last season. He was 26-21 with a playoff appearance for the Eagles. Before jumping to the NFL, Kelly spent four seasons as Oregon head coach and went 46-7. Mac-Hi alum wins national title for EOU track and fi eld GULF SHORES, Ala. — Eastern Oregon senior athlete Pancho Saldana fi nished off his collegiate career in championship fashion. Saldana, a Mac-Hi alumnus, won the NAIA national championship in men’s javelin on Thursday, recording a toss of 221 feet, 5 3/4 inches on his fi rst attempt at the 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Champi- onships. The throw gave him a 15-foot cushion on second place Saldana and also broke EOU’s school record of 207 feet, 7 inches that Saldana himself set just two weeks ago at the Cascade Collegiate Conference championships. Saldana’s second attempt came up just short of his fi rst, registering at 220 feet, 2 1/2 inches. It was great retribution for the senior, as Saldana fi nished in second place in the javelin in 2016.
