RECORDS Tuesday, May 23, 2017 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG 2:37 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to four men arguing in the street on the 200 block of South Main Street. 5:08 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a prowler on the roof and at the front door of a home on Northeast Seventh Street. 8:49 a.m. - Hermiston police took reports of gang graffiti at a business on West Juniper and also at West Orchard Avenue and Southwest 10th Street. 11:03 a.m. - Umatilla residents on Dos Palos Court told police they are having problems with a male calling their children and harassing them. 12:03 p.m. - A caller reported the theft of his car from in front of the Taj Food Mart, 84802 Highway 11, Milton-Freewater. 12:08 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of a theft of a gun from a home on Southwest Fifth Street. 1:28 p.m. - Someone emailed Pilot Rock City Hall pictures of animal neglect. 3:34 p.m. - A pickup was on fire in an industrial yard on Northwest Cedar Street, Pilot Rock. 6:16 p.m. - Pendleton emergency services responded to Southwest Emigrant Avenue and First Street on a report of a vehicle striking a woman in a wheelchair. SATURDAY 5:18 a.m. - A caller reported a domestic disturbance involving a man yelling “Get off of me” on Southwest Athens Avenue, Pendleton. 8:22 p.m. - A Hermiston resident on East Quince Avenue told police neighbors chased another neighbor’s rabbits, and when she asked them to stop, the male began taking video and yelling at her. 8:25 p.m. - Umatilla County dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call a man on Daisy Lane, Hermiston, who reported “him and his” are fighting 8:26 p.m. - A caller told the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office a 15-year-old in Ione has been home alone for 10 days and driving her parents’ black Jeep Wrangler. 11:35 p.m. - Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two explosions on East Garfield Street and North Second Street, Athena. Deputies issued a warning. SUNDAY 7:19 a.m. - Law enforcement police received a report from Southwest Birch Street, Pilot Rock, about gunshots from an airplane. 8:16 a.m. - Morrow County emergency services responded to a report of a crash on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 near Boardman. Law enforcement and an ambulance crew found a man fishing who parked his pickup on the railroad right-of-way. Officers warned the man for trespassing on Union Pacific Railroad property. 1:54 p.m. - A man on Northeast Elder Street, Heppner, reported someone tore down his no trespassing sign. 5:32 p.m. - A Walla Walla motorcyclist suffered a serious injury in a crash near Tollgate. Oregon State Police reported Fred Ray Guglielmelli, 60, of Walla Walla, was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle west on Highway 204 when he lost control a few miles from Tollgate. He climbed an embankment and was thrown from the machine, which rolled down a ditch. Guglielmelli suffered a serious leg injury, according to state police, and was taken to a hospital in Washington. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday •Oregon State Police arrested Marcos Zeferin Vidal, 27, of Boardman, for driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol). The arrest occurred after the vehicle Vidal was driving around 6:40 a.m. hit the right side of a semitrailer on the Interstate 84 off-ramp at milepost 159. State police also reported Vidal later provided a breath sample with a blood-alcohol level of .16 percent, two times the legal limit. •Pendleton police arrested James Michael Hutchins Jr., 39, of 1215 N.W. King Ave., Pendleton, for possession of methamphetamine. Saturday •Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cristoval Tiburcio Rodrigues, 40, of Hermiston, for fourth-degree assault, menacing, reckless driving, reckless endangering, DUII (alcohol), second-degree disorderly conduct and contempt of court. •Pendleton police arrested Esther Lynn Huesties, 30, of Pendleton, for DUII. •Morrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 3:53 p.m. about a man sitting on a porch on the 200 block of Southeast Californian Avenue, Irrigon, talking to himself and stating he wanted to “punish some women.” Deputies arrested Joshua Michael Crites, 33, of Richland, Washington, for first-degree trespass, second-degree disorderly conduct, and for contempt of court. •Oregon State Police arrested Prafulchandra M. Patel, 63, of Pendleton, for DUII. •Oregon State Police arrested Cesar Arturo Garcia-Mendoza, 30, of Umatilla, for DUII (alcohol). Sunday •Hermiston police arrested Cassandra Frost, 28, of 245 N.W. 11th St., Apt A9, Hermiston, for fourth-degree assault, assaulting a public safety officer, second-degree disorderly conduct, and third-degree mischief. •Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joseph Louis Erevia, 30, of 689 E. Ridgeway Ave., Hermiston, for DUII (drugs), driving while suspended/revoked, possession of methamphet- amine and two counts of reckless endangering. Monday •Hermiston police arrested Dylan Lieght Russell, 24, of Hermiston, for violating parole and unauthorized use of a vehicle. •Stanfield police arrested Dennis Robert Thomas Faria, 31, of 2410 N.W. Carden Ave., Apt 29, Pendleton, for possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation. SCHOLARSHIPS PFLAG awards diversity scholarship PENDLETON — Pendleton High School senior Raeana Mikel is the 2017 recipient of a $1,000 Roberta Frazier Anderson Diversity Scholar- ship, presented by PFLAG Pendleton. Mikel plans to attend California State University Maritime Academy, Vallejo, Calif., in the fall of 2017. She is the daughter of Stacy Bustamante and Jerrod Mikel. Members of PFLAG Pendleton established the Diversity Scholarship in 2015 in Anderson’s honor to recog- nize Pendleton High School graduating seniors who exemplify the qualities of leadership and commitment to social Mikel equality to which Anderson, a long- time member of PFLAG, dedicated her life. PFLAG is dedicated to advancing equality and societal affirmation for all people through its threefold mission of support, education, and equality. Dona Jo Goold Leland Jones Milwaukie November 15, 1927-May 19, 2017 Pendleton August 10,1941-May 17, 2017 Dona Jo was born to Wayne Weldon Wyrick and Clarice Valinda Carter. She had an older brother, Wayne Weldon Wyrick Jr., deceased, and a younger sister, Patsy Jean Oliveira. Survivors include Warren Lee Goold, husband, and children Steven (Christina), Martin (Randie), Gary (Sharlyn), J’Leane (Leslie) and Samuel (Sherie), 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchil- Goold dren. Dona gradu- ated from Pendleton High School in 1945 and received an associate’s degree in merchandising from Eastern Oregon College of Educa- tion, now known as Eastern Oregon University. She married Warren Lee Goold on July 20, 1947, in Pendleton, Oregon, and lived in Pendleton until 1949. They lived in Pilot Rock, Oregon, from 1949 to 1968; in Omak, Wash- ington, from 1968 to 1974; and in Milwaukie, Oregon, from 1974 until the time of her death. Dona retired from Pacific North- west Bell Telephone Company in 1990. In retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her husband. Viewing and funeral services will be held on May 30, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 8331 Cason Road, Gladstone, OR 97027. Harold Landis ‘Lanny’ West Echo June 6, 1937-May 18, 2017 Harold Landis “Lanny” West of Echo, Oregon, was born on June 6, 1937, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to parents Ira Raymond West and Helen Lillian Richardson West. He died on May 18, 2017, in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 79 years. Lanny was raised and attended schools in Scotts- bluff, Nebraska, where he served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He grad- uated from Scotts- bluff High School in the class of 1956. West Lanny was united in marriage to Betty Jane Leis on June 5, 1964, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He operating an aerial spraying business in Nebraska before becoming a partner in OWL Flying in Pendleton, Oregon. He acquired Coons Flying Service in Echo, Oregon, and moved the family there in 1973, eventually renaming the business West Flying Service. He owned and oper- ated the family’s agricultural aerial spraying business for many years. He enjoyed flying, snow- mobiling and traveling with family and friends. He is survived by his sons Gary West, Hermiston, Ore., and Ronald and Dean West, both of Echo, Ore.; grand- daughter Suzanna Schuck, Portland, Ore.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lanny was preceded in death by his wife Betty West; his parents; brothers Don, Jack and Clyde West; and sisters Mildred Carpenter, Mary West, Betty Wedell and June Fiester. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Hermiston, Oregon. Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon. He designed and executed with volunteers stage settings for the Kiwanis Kapers for several years. For 30 years Lee worked at U.S. Gypsum, reconsti- tuted as Masonite and finally Wood Fiber. He started as a lab technician in R and D, then served as general foreman in the boardmill. Later he was superintendent of quality, and finally superintendent of the boardmill. He took great pride in the accomplishments of the people in his depart- ments. Lee is survived by Roberta, his wife of nearly 50 years, and his children Anthony (DeeDee) and Jennifer I. Foss. His grandsons Jason (Megan) and Nicholas, and Jennifer’s son Carlo D’Amato brought him great joy, as did his great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaitand Noah. His sisters Joyce (Lach) McClenehen and Rebecca Jones shared vacations abroad and in the U.S. A celebration of life recep- tion will be held from two to four p.m. on May 27 at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. His family will attend the scattering of his ashes in the landscape he so loved. In lieu of flowers, contri- butions to the Pendleton Center for the Arts would be appreciated. Both parents came from farming families. Bruce was from the Gervais, Oregon, area and Eunice was raised in South Dakota before moving near Brooks, Oregon. Leland (Lee) was raised in Gresham, Oregon on an acreage complete with milk cow. He graduated from Gresham Jones High School and continued his education at Portland State University. He graduated with concentrations in business, anthropology and art, and did graduate work in sculpture, working in bronze casting, sheet metal, clay and plaster media. He and Roberta met at Portland State, married and moved to Pendleton in 1967 with children Anthony and Jennifer. He chose to remain here to raise his children and record his vision of the magnificence of the Pend- leton hinterland. Lee and Randy Gundlach were the featured artists in the opening exhibit at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. Lee enjoyed hanging, setting the lights and working on installations together with other members of the board of the Arts Center.
