Free Teen Classes The PCA’s Art Rocks Teens (A.R.T.) program provides FREE art and music workshops to 13-18 year olds. Run by the Teen Arts Council, A.R.T. offers a creative summer option just for teens with a snack provided before the class begins. Enrollment in any A.R.T. workshop is free- students just need a signed A.R.T. Parent Permission Form. Stop by the PCA to pick up a form, or print one off our website and bring it completed to your first class. COLLAGE-O-RAMA - Lori Sams TUES & WED, JUNE 20 & 21 11:00AM – 2:00PM EACH DAY This class is designed to get your inspiration flowing and then provide plenty of materials and studio time to develop your ideas. Lori will present a different collage techniques including narrative, monochromatic, cubomania and image creation, and then set you loose to incorporate the technique into a project of your own. Bring a lunch with you, we’ll have some snacks here for everyone too. 3-D Modeling and Printing -Maddie Thompson, Mike Dinkel TUES, WED, THURS, JUNE 20 - 22 2:30 – 4:00PM EACH DAY Get hands on experience designing and creating 3-D objects in the P-TECH engineering lab. You don’t have to be a techie to join- we’ll show the basics of the design software, do a couple exercises, and then you get to try it out on your own. Each student will print one of their own designs. Meet at the Arts Center on the first day and we’ll walk over to P-TECH as a group. papier-mâché - Lori Sams TUES & WED, JUNE 27 & 28 11:00AM – 2:00PM EACH DAY Learn the techniques and possibilities of paper and paste sculptures, aka papier- mâché, or, as translated to English, chewed paper sculpture. We’ll build one day and paint on the next. Bring a lunch with you, we’ll have some snacks here for everyone too. Drones! -Mikal Wright, Brandy anderson TUES & THURS, JUNE 27 & 28 3:30 - 5:00PM EACH DAY Students will learn to fly simulators and real aircraft with the supervision of instructors. A lively, interactive discussion session will provide a clear understanding of terminology, aeronautical principles and safety considerations involved in successfully operating drones. Afterwards, we’ll head outside to try out flying! ADVENTURES IN STOP MOTION ANIMATION – ERICA EDWARDS TUES, WED, THURS, JULY 11 -13 3:00 - 5:00PM EACH DAY Stop motion animation is a filmmaking technique that has been around for years, made popular by classic films such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Coraline. We’ll experiment with the techniques used in these film favorites to create unique narratives of our own. THROWING CLAY - SCARLETT REAGAN TUES, WED, THURS, JULY 18 – 20 & JULY 25 - 27 3:00 - 5:00PM EACH DAY Use the pottery wheel to throw functional clay forms. Scarlett will share info about process, materials, and tools, and students will get plenty of wheel-time to practice. Mix it up: A ROCK INSTRUMENT Sampler for Beginners and Beyond – MIKE KELLISON THURSDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM JUNE 22 – JULY 27 (6 SESSIONS) Want to explore playing music for the first time? Or maybe you’re an aspiring multi- instrumentalist? We’ll test drive a different instrument each week- acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, ukuleles, drums and other percussion instruments. This is a low-pressure exploration in musical instruments; try them all, learn a little about each, and you might even find your jam. If you already play an instrument Mike can help you expand your skills and try out some new things. If you’re brand new to music this class is the perfect instrument introduction.
