GREATER
HERMISTON
On behalf of the Career Day Committee
at Armand Larive Middle School, I would
like to thank the more than 30 community
members from Hermiston to Boardman to
Tri-Cities that were involved in our Career
Day on March 3.
Our community is so supportive of our
schools and we are appreciative that many
people were willing to take time away from
their jobs, places of business, and clients to
speak to our middle school students about
education, jobs, and the future. Our students
learned so much and many now have an idea
of a career path they may take.
Again, thank you to all those involved
in Armand Larive’s Career Day 2017. The
education of our students is so important and
it cannot be done alone!

Choir students at Armand Larive Middle
School will attend a live music performance
thanks to a grant from the Umatilla County
Cultural Coalition.
The grant award covers the cost of tickets
for 50 students to see the Restless Vocal Band.
The group will perform Saturday, April 15 at
Hermiston High School, as part of Desert Arts
Council spring lineup.
Music teacher Brooke Baker said the
students are grateful to the coalition for their
generous support.
“This gives kids the unique opportunity to
see high caliber performances they may never
get to have again,” Baker said. “The award
is the second grant we have received from
Umatilla County Cultural Coalition. They have
been an amazing support for students’ exposure
to the arts.”
The Umatilla County Cultural Coalition is
made up of individuals representing the arts,
heritage and humanities in Umatilla County.
The group strives to increase awareness of
cultural organizations and activities in the
county.
Through their grant program, the coalition
provides funding to support goals in the
Umatilla County Cultural Plan. The coalition is
funded by the Oregon Cultural Trust.
