SEASON GOALS: Steadily building on strong fundamentals and improvement through experience are goals for what Holdman said will be a building season. HOLDMAN’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “Keep the players motivated and working hard to develop the skills necessary to compete at the required level for Hermiston Bulldogs With a strong stable of returning singles players, the Bulldogs will again be a handful for the teams in their district and they hope to give the teams from Bend a run for their money. In doubles, communication and moving together is an area of focus. SANCHEZ’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “Lots of playing time together, especially with our doubles teams.” PIONEERS’ BIGGEST STRENGTHS: Doubles is where the team’s strongest players reside this season with Cuellar a three-time regional qualifier and Villegas owning some big-match “Just be able to get on the court and play the game! Improve each match that they play. Be able to practice every day without the weather being an issue.” KNIGHTS’ BIGGEST STRENGTHS: Kopp said his team may be young, but they’re extremely coachable, and since the team is small each of them will receive lots of individual tutelage. LOGAN’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “Working smarter not harder, and preparing ourselves both mentally and physically. Working as a team has helped a lot.” TIGERS’ BIGGEST STRENGTHS: With no line judges, honesty is a big key in high school tennis. Logan said Stanfield opponents need not worry when playing the Tigers. The Grizzlies have a motivated group that has logged lots of court time over the last few years, leading to some high expectations under a new head coach. OREM’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “We bring back lots of tennis experience, but we still have lots of room for improvement on and off the court. My philosophy is to win, but we win the right way. If we can do this, then we can and will accomplish our goals.” GRIZZLIES’ BIGGEST STRENGTHS: Helix is deceptively deep with experienced players that are new to the roster, and all of them have been working hard on their own to supplement the already ample court time they receive in practice.
