Pendleton Girls Three-time state placer Haley Greb is back for her senior year to lead a team returning three starters and hopeful for a fifth-straight berth in the state championships. Greb tied for second last year for her highest placing at state, and the Bucks were also second as a team but did lose two of their top four scorers to graduation. HEAD COACH: Terry Prouse, 11th year RETURNING STARTERS: Haley Greb, sr.; Megan George, so.; Rylee Harris, so. SEASON GOALS: Lower scores each match and a season that ends with a berth in the state tournament berth. PROUSE’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “A lot of hard work, and work on our weakness to make it our strength.” BIGGEST STRENGTHS: Greb’s consistently low scores and experi- ence at the state level give the Bucks a steady leader, and the rest of the team has shown great work ethic and a positive attitude on the links. Pendleton Boys The Buckaroos bring back their lowest scorer (Nathan Som) from last season’s third-place finish at state and will look to extend their run of seven- straight years qualifying for state as a team. SEASON GOALS: The Bulldogs didn’t feel the thrill of the chase too often last season, and are looking to compete for tournament titles in 2017. LIND’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “Our veterans with Anders and Jared are going to have play solid all year. Both players are capable of playing par golf or better. Our three, four, and five need to continue to bring scores down. We need to post counting scores that are well below 90.” BIGGEST STRENGTHS: Hermiston’s upperclassmen bring valuable experi- ence on a variety of courses, but will be pushed from behind by some talented newcomers that have the potential to play their way into varsity scoring spots. OTHER SENIORS: (Boys) Gage Harwood SEASON GOALS: The boys are intent on a district title and top-four finish at state this season, while the girls are going to focus on improving their game and having fun. WOFFORD’S KEY TO THE SEASON: “Getting the kids to play up to their abilities.” BIGGEST STRENGTHS: The camaraderie and trust in teammates is a guiding force for the Pioneers, and Wofford said this group never seems to have trouble having fun on the course.
