Inez Stegall Hermiston April 30, 1934-March 9, 2017 Inez Stegall (Weippert), 82, of Hermiston, Ore., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on March 9, 2017. The daughter of Peter and Magdelena (Aichele) Weippert, Inez was born on April 30, 1934, in Chaseley, North Dakota, the youngest of six siblings. Inez grew up on a farm and attended Chaseley School. While in high school, Inez played basketball and was a cheer- leader as well as spent time with her horse, May. She and her horse were Stegall inseparable during her childhood; she was often seen riding May to school. In 1953, she married Franklin O. Berg Sr., and together they had six beautiful children while living in North Dakota and Montana. In 1972, she married her second husband, T.M. Stegall, and the family moved to the Grand Coulee, Wash., area and also lived in Kennewick before moving to Prosser in 1976. In 1992, after her husband’s retirement, they moved to Boardman and then Hermiston, Ore., where she resided until her death. Truly in her element as the matriarch of an enor- mous brood of children, grandchildren, great-grand- children, nieces and nephews, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Inez was a wonderful cook, always the hostess for family get-togethers where enough food for an army was prepared; family gath- erings were not complete without her famous buns and caramel rolls. She and T.M. spent many winters traveling to Arizona and Mexico in their RV. Inez also enjoyed spending time in her flowerbeds and garden, playing pinochle, quilting and crafts, canning and traveling to casinos. Another of her joys was watching polka and country music shows on Saturday night RFD-TV. Inez is survived by her six children: Corlotta Berg of Hermiston, Ore., Franklin Jr. (Carol) Berg of Salem, Ore., Mark (Darlene) Berg of Prosser, Wash., Daniel (Vickie) Berg of Prosser, Wash., Susan Troth of Lincoln, Calif., and David (Rhonda) Berg of Moses Lake, Wash., as well as 18 grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband T.M.; sisters Martha and Elsie; and brothers Rienhold, Ruben and Edwin. Viewing will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Prosser Funeral Home. A service to cele- brate Inez’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Prosser Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Prosser Ceme- tery where Inez will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband T.M. You may leave a message for the family at www. prosserfuneralhome.com. Ralph R. Hartley, age 97 years and 73 days, passed away peacefully in Herm- iston, Oregon, under the care of hospice. He was born on December 28, 1919, in Harbor, Oregon, the oldest child of Harold Ralph and Sadie (Heiberger) Hartley. Ralph grew up on the Siletz River near Lincoln City, Oregon, and was the valedictorian of his class at Siletz High School. Following graduation in 1937 Hartley he joined his family in Hermiston, Oregon, where his father owned the Happy Thot Dairy. A big part of Ralph’s younger years was spent milking cows and processing milk for home delivery. In 1946 Ralph married Virginia Borthwick and they had six children: Dennis, Scott (Donna), Brad, Marcia Sherris, Janis (Terry) Williams and Harold (Pat). They divorced in 1978. Ralph was married to Pauline Kombel from 1982 until her death in 2011. In 1950 Ralph became a member of the Laborer’s Union. He worked building highways and dams, such as I-84 and McNary Dam, until his retirement in 1985. For many of his retirement years, until almost the age of 90, Ralph went to the forest and cut, hauled and deliv- ered firewood. He supplied numerous customers in Hermiston with their winter wood supply. Besides cutting firewood Ralph enjoyed fishing, hiking in the Wallowa Mountains and, most of all in his later years, actively managing his investments. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Pauline, his parents, brothers Russell and George, sister Marie Franek and great-grandson Trevor Page. In addition to his six children and spouses, Ralph is survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Contributions may be made to Vange John Memorial Hospice or a charity of choice. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 17, 2017, at the Herm- iston Cemetery.
