A caller said the owner of the dogs refuses to keep them in the yard. 9:46 a.m. - Vandals painted graffiti on the walls of the west dugout at Nugent Park, Umatilla. 11:49 a.m. - Hermiston police took a report for physical abuse of a child. 12:48 p.m. - Two pit bull dogs on East Sunset Drive, Hermiston, attacked the neighbor’s dog across the street. 5 p.m. - A caller reported people moving a small manufac- tured home blocked Lincoln Mountain Road about a quarter mile from the turnoff at Highway 204. 6:54 p.m. - A male in a black hooded sweatshirt looked into a car outside Club 24, Hermiston, and begged people for money. 7:27 p.m. - A caller at the Crossroads Truck Stop, 2020 Highway 703, Umatilla, reported the big red truck almost hit him broadside. 9:04 p.m. - A 65-year-old man told an Oregon State Police trooper he stopped at the Interstate 84 rest area on the west- bound side of milepost 192, where a woman asked for money. The woman tried to hug him, the man said, and when he stopped for gas a couple of miles later, he found his wallet was gone. 10:25 p.m. - A Heppner resident on West Sperry Street reported a dog was in his yard and barking. Morrow County sheriff’s deputies could not catch the dog. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Pendleton police arrested William James Anderson, 36, of 809 S.W. First St., Pendleton, for violating a restraining order and first-degree burglary. •Hermiston police arrested Felix Alvarez Rios, 27, no address provided, for giving false info to police, possession of fictitious identification, and on a warrant and two counts of contempt of court. •Umatilla police arrested Jose Lepe, Jr., 25, of Umatilla, for fourth-degree assault. •Oregon State Police arrested Nathan Thomas Harper, 28, no address provided, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. (541- 276-6711) William E. “Bill” Jones was born on November 14, 1923, in Joes, Colorado, to parents Alexander Bryan Jones and Bertha Coral Bennett Jones. He died on February 9, 2017, at home in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 93 years. Bill served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He spent many years working as a prospector, mining throughout the area. Bill enjoyed crib- bage, playing cards, Jones traveling, spending time with his family. He was a life member of the Halfway VFW and the Columbia Grange. He is survived by his brothers Harry Jones and wife Doris, Longview, Wash., Franklin Jones, Woodland, Wash., and Galen Jones and wife Carla, Longview, Wash.; sisters Elizabeth Shaw, Herm- iston, Ore., Doris Reid, Herm- iston, Ore., Edna Collyer and husband Clarence, Herm- iston, Ore., and Sara Wilson, Waitsburg, Wash.; special niece Emily Mellick, Hermiston, Ore.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman, and sisters Iris and Martha. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Herm- iston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon. A celebration of life potluck gathering will follow at the Columbia Grange, 32339 Diagonal Road, Herm- iston, Oregon. The Blue Mountain Community College Foundation welcomes all students planning to attend BMCC during the 2017-2018 academic year to complete their scholarship application. The selected recipients may receive awards, typically from $250 to $3,000, for tuition, books and fees at BMCC. There are over 60 scholarships in one application. The application deadline is March 15, 2017. The application is located on the BMCC web page at www.bluecc.edu. Hospital auxiliary announces medical scholarships HERMISTON — Students pursuing higher education in the field of medicine are invited to apply for $1,500 scholarships for the 2017-18 school year. To be eligible for the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary scholarships, a student’s home residence must be within the areas served by Good Shepherd Health Care System. Those communities include Hermiston, Boardman, Echo, Irrigon, Stanfield and Umatilla. Also, applicants must have successfully completed at least one year of study in the field of medicine at a college or university. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 28. PEO Chapter BJ offers scholarships Pendleton P.E.O. Chapter BJ is offering two scholarships to women graduates of local high schools. Created by their sons as a memorial to former Pendletonians Gladys and Dr. Harry Masenhimer, the Gladys and Harry Masenhimer Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a woman or women who plan to attend Blue Mountain Community College for the 2017-2018 school year.
