September 26, 1953-February 11, 2017 Left in the dark — I called him John; others called him my dad. He was a man of many names to many people, depending upon when and where you knew him from. So many at one time or another called him a friend, brother, son, uncle, as just about everyone knew him or of him. He is gone way before his time should have been but the demons (which he struggled with off and on throughout his life on a daily basis) were far too great for him to overcome. John passed away Saturday morning, February 11, in Zillah, Washington, at the age of 63. I know for a fact that he was a proud father, as when- ever I was with him or went to visit he would tell anybody he knew and strangers alike, “That’s my daughter.” We had many good times together when I was growing up, which became further between as I became an adult, but if we had something planned he would get all gussied up and ready to go with total excitement in his Verna Taylor, HAS Ric Jones, BC-HIS Forrest Cahill, HAS 541-215-1888 246 SW Dorion, Pendleton eyes. Our biggest thing when I was growing up was going to the local car races, which we did every Saturday night for as long as I can remember. Sunday, though, was left for Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR on TV. He was an amazing truck driver for many years at Simplot (where he was known as JB, and the name carried on after), earning the number one and number two driver for many, many years. So it is with these memo- ries I say goodbye, so long to a good friend. It’s been a long ride and now the struggle is over. John is preceded in death by his father Dick Hendricks and son John Lee. He is survived by his mother Virginia Carnell; brother Gil and wife Nita Hendricks and many nieces and nephews; dear friend Tony Bliss and family; and myself, Dawn Hendricks, his daughter. A private service will be held. UPCOMING SERVICES TUESDAY, FEB. 14 - WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15 No services scheduled OBITUARY POLICY The East Oregonian publishes paid obituaries.
