Madsen Hermiston January 9, 1949-January 11, 2017 Ione December 10, 1924-December 16, 2016 La Grande March 7, 1930-January 15, 2017 Timothy J. Heihn was born on January 9, 1949, in Havre, Montana, to parents Edwin and Esther Gruszie Heihn. He passed away January 11, 2017, after a brief illness at the age of 68. Tim grew up in Chinook, Montana, then moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, his teen years. Tim was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam as an encryptograph technician. After being h o n o r a b l y discharged, Tim Heihn found his dream job with Hodaka Motorcycles in Athena, Oregon. He then worked at Cycletown in Hermiston and retired in 2011 from Union Pacific Railroad as a foreman general at the diesel shop. Tim had a love for life and for people. He made many friends throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially loved being around the grandkids. He had many interests and hobbies. He was a Ham radio operator who went by the call name KG7AM. He never lost his love of dirt bikes and enjoyed working on them with his friends. He was a talented handyman, which his family appreciated. He enjoyed camping, fishing and trav- eling. He was an expert marksman and for many years competed in silhou- ette shooting. Tim is survived by his wife Joan; sister Viola Thorp; brother-in-law Tom Thorp; and two children, Aaron and Rebecca Heihn. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 485 W. View the full obituary at www.burnsmortuarypendleton.com Jeanene Burton Preston Weiser, Idaho March 13, 1934-Jan. 10, 2017 Former Pilot Rock resident Jeanene Burton Preston, 82, of Weiser, Idaho, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at her home. She was born March 13, 1934. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Weiser, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Lienkaemper-Thomason Funeral Center. Lloyd Gale McNary of Ione, Oregon, passed away on December 16, 2016, at the age of 92 in Heppner, Oregon, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Lloyd was born December 10, 1924, in Nohley, Montana, to parents Levi Clarence McNary and Beatrice Marie Berry. He was raised on the family farm in Buford, North Dakota, and graduated from Trenton High School in 1942. He worked on the family farm for several years after McNary graduation before he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945. He was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, attended Corps School at San Diego, California, and then was stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay area at the Navy hospital. When Lloyd was honorably discharged his rank was Pharmacist’s Mate, Third Class. Lloyd went home to Buford after being discharged to farm and play club baseball. In the winters of 1947-1948 he attended Kinman Business College in Spokane, Washington. It was there that he first met Shirley Jeanne Ransom. Lloyd and Shirley married in Lewiston, Idaho, on November 5, 1948. They were married for 68 years. The couple lived in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, for many years before moving to Ione, Oregon, in 1969. Farming was Lloyd’s first and last occupation but in between he worked at the Umatilla Army Depot, went uranium prospecting in Arizona, moved houses, owned a gas station, worked at Lamb Weston, and was a tax consultant. Lloyd enjoyed creek fishing, square dancing, hunting, playing cards and watching baseball. He attended many of his grandchil- dren’s baseball and softball games. He is survived by his wife Shirley McNary, Ione, Oregon; daughter Marla McNary (Bob Bailey) of Portland, Oregon; son David McNary, Ione, Oregon; daughter Gayle Gutierrez (Kim) Heppner, Oregon; brother Delmer McNary, Twin Falls, Idaho; sister Diane Maas, Nordham, Idaho; grandchildren Aaron Bailey, Megan Bailey, Jessica Gutierrez, Joshua Gutierrez, Wyatt McNary and Whitney McNary; and great-grand- children Reese and Rachel Gutierrez and Elias, Astrid and Malin Bailey. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Floyd and Duane, and sister Evalee. A memorial service for the public will be held on January 21, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Ione, Oregon. A private burial was held earlier at High View Ceme- tery in Ione. PUBLIC SAFETY LOG COMMUNITY CALENDAR OBITUARY POLICY SATURDAY 3:15 a.m. - Umatilla police investigated a report of a single gunshot in the vicinity of Second Street, but were unable to locate a shooter. 2:07 p.m. - A resident of South Water Street, Weston, reported his shop was broken into two nights ago. A Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy took a theft report. 4:17 p.m. - Umatilla police again searched for alleged shooters near Umatilla River and Jones Scott roads, but did not find anyone. 7:33 p.m. - Hermiston police searched for but did not find a school bus a caller said had no headlights on and ran a stop sign at West Highland Avenue and Southwest 11th Street, Hermiston. 9:09 p.m. - Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a theft report for a snow blower from a residence on Weis Road, Milton-Freewater. SUNDAY 11:33 a.m. - A resident of Southwest Third Street, Pilot Rock, reported her father was trying to break down her door to get medication. Pilot Rock police responded. 2:07 p.m. - Umatilla police investigated an assault at a residence on El Monte Street. 5:10 p.m. - Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office was informed of a domestic violence assault at a home on West Waid Street, Ukiah. MONDAY 12:36 a.m. - A vehicle on Baseline Lane and Marquardt Road, Lexington, was unable to stop and drove through the intersection, and the underside of the vehicle caught fire. The occupants of the vehicle escaped and were not injured. Fire, though, completely engulfed the car. The owner requested contact from the Lexington Fire Department. 11:13 a.m. - A resident of the 100 block of Southeast Seventh Avenue, Milton-Freewater, reported her vehicle was broken into, causing some damage, and items were taken. 1:50 p.m.- A motor home was vandalized in the 300 block of South Mill Street, Milton-Freewater. 2:51 p.m. - Boxes were reported stolen from Vazza Farms Inc. property at Paterson Ferry Road and Highway 730, Irrigon, and an employee reported someone tried to steal more. He requested contact from a Morrow County sheriff’s deputy. 3:04 p.m. - Boardman emergency services responded to a crash on Anderson Circle, Boardman, and ambulances took more than one person to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston. 5:19 p.m. - The Heppner Fire Department and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office were called to Northwest Water and Jones streets, Heppner, for a chimney fire at a home near the city park. Madsen, long- time Hermiston resident, was born on March 7, 1930, in Los Angeles to parents Bert and Emma Hall Madsen. He died on January 15, 2017, in La Grande at the age of 86 years. Don was raised and attended schools in Monroe, Utah, and later Bountiful, Utah. He attended Davis High School, participating in football, basketball and baseball and graduating in 1948. Madsen While at Davis High School Don met the love of his life, Laurel Joyce Sibbett, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1950, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He attended and played both basketball and football at Weber College and then later at the College of Idaho, where he earned his bach- elor’s degree in education. Don then earned his masters degree in education at the University of Oregon. He started teaching and coaching in 1952 in Parma, Idaho, later in Caldwell. Idaho, and Dayville, Ore., before moving to Hermiston in 1956. Don taught history and driver’s ed, among various other subjects, as well as coaching basketball and football. He retired from teaching in 1990 after 33 years in the Hermiston School District. After retire- ment he coached for one year as the boys varsity basketball coach at Riverside High School in Boardman. He then coached basketball at BMCC for several years with longtime friend Larry Bartee. Don was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a church service mission with his wife at the Willow Creek Branch for two years in Lexington and Heppner. He also served in various other callings including ward clerk and Stake High Coun- cilman. He enjoyed coaching at any level, supporting his grandchildren in their activities, and hunting. There wasn’t a child or animal that didn’t enjoy his gentle manner. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Madsen, La Grande, Ore.; sons Michael Madsen, Hermiston, Ore., and Mark Madsen and wife JoAnna, La Grande, Ore.; grandchildren Ashley (Greg), Allison, Steven (Danielle), Anne (Jake), Soren (Lacey), Seth and Sophia; great-grandchildren Kole, Emery, Tyler, Eliza- beth, Angel, Charlotte and Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mac Madsen, and sister Judy Forster. A viewing and funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017. The viewing will be at 9:00 a.m., to be followed by the funeral at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1035 S.E. Ninth St., Hermiston, Ore.
