RECORDS Friday, December 16, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG 9:02 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call about an animal carcass at North Ott and East Punkin Center roads, Hermiston. 9:46 a.m.- A city of Milton-Freewater employee reported going to a house on Winesap Road on a power call and found a horse in a small stall without water or food and in manure 3 feet deep. 11:08 a.m. - Hermiston police responded to a home on Southwest 11th Street after a caller reported a male wearing black gloves and a black hood tried to open her front door. Police found no suspect. 1:25 p.m. - A caller told Hermiston police someone stole the battery out of her car on Northwest 13th Street, and the day before someone stole fuel from the car. 2:31 p.m. - A Umatilla resident on Columbia Boulevard asked for police help to deal with the people stealing from her apartment. So far, they took a light bulb, three ice chests, two barbecue grills and laundry. 3:48 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report about a dog owner on Southwest Seventh Street who has left out a Rottweiler for three days. 8:18 p.m. - A caller on East Beeach Avenue, Hermiston, reported a man stole more than $1,000 cash from her. She knew his first name, she said, but not his last or where he lives. 9:12 p.m. - The driver of a white sedan spun cookies near La Palma Restaurant, 231 E. Hurlburt Ave., Hermiston, until the car became high centered. 9:19 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a truck driver punching a man on Interstate 84 near Hermiston. 10:14 p.m. - A Hermiston woman reported her ex-husband keeps harassing her with calls and texts, but she has no protection order against him. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Dante Lamar Marshall, 30, of Snellville, Georgia, ended up in the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, for domestic violence assault. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office around 4:40 p.m. responded to a home on Northeast 10th Street, Hermiston, after a woman there reported Marshall hit and bit her and destroyed her property. Deputies arrested Marshall and put him in jail for felony fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest. Marshall already has a domestic violence assault case pending following his Oct. 31 arrest. Court records show he skipped his Nov. 14 court hearing to face that charge. His victim was the same in both cases. •Boardman police arrested Cynthia Ann Brown, 28, of Boardman, for fourth-degree assault. •Boardman police arrested Tyler Maurice Messersmith, 31, no address provided, for third-degree and fourth-degree assault. Nancy C. Schulz David Walters Pendleton February 8, 1945-December 13, 2016 Pendleton August 13, 1948-December 8, 2016 Nancy Schulz, 71, of Pendleton died on Tuesday, December 13 at Trios Hospital in Kennewick. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Pendleton. Nancy Schulz was born February 8, 1945, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Delbert and Dorothy Gains. She grew up in Pilot Rock and graduated from Pilot Rock Schulz High School. Nancy worked mostly in nursing homes. She worked at Prowler in the ’70s and lived in many states, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. She loved fixing dinner and having all the gang in for a BBQ. She was an avid crafter and always had a sewing craft room, and spent many hours enjoying herself at different projects. He was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Medford. Arrangements are pending with Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. Sign the online condolence book at burnsmortua- ryhermiston.com Ann Breland Dave passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Dec. 8th, 2016, in Mesa, Ariz. Dave was born August 13th, 1948, in Baker, Oregon, to Gurney and Vera Walters. They moved to Pendleton when Dave was a small child. Dave went to Pendleton schools and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1966. He is survived by his wife Toni; sons Clint Walters and Brian Walters and spouse Cassondra; daughter Sarah Prince and spouse John; his grandchildren Bailey Walters, Chelsie Lockwood, Morgan Lockwood, Mallory Walters, Quinn Walters, Layne Prince, Hayden Walters, Ethan McMillin and Trenton Walters, and two great-grand- children; mother Vera Walters; brothers Stephen Walters and spouse Michelle Walters, and Ric Walters and spouse Patrice; many cousins, including Rodney “Ford” Darlington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Gurney and infant son Christopher. “Papa Dave” is also survived by his many softball families. Dave went into business in 1972 with his father at Court St. Chevron. In 1992 Dave and Toni rebuilt the Chevron, making it into a convenience store/Chevron station. In 2001 Dave, Toni and son Clint opened Dave’s on 12th Street, which has become the “hub” for many locals in Pendleton. Dave retired five years ago and enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona. He loved taking them to ghost towns, lakes and baseball games. Dave was a season ticket holder for ASU girls softball and knew each player and their stats. Dave met his wife Toni in Oct. 1978 and they married Sept. 19th, 1979. Dave was a kind, generous and loving man. He loved his wife, kids and grandkids and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Besides many other youth activities, Dave sponsored DFM/USA Explosion girls softball teams. Dave spent most of his summers following the DFM teams all over Oregon, Washington and California. He was an avid fan and went to every game he could. He worked hard to see that every girl had every chance to excel and grow in the sport. He loved to see their happy smiles; he said, “That is what makes it all worth- while.” As Ron Thompson said, “What Dave did for girls softball was a ‘selfless act of kindness.’” Dave will be cherished and missed by all those who know and love him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21st at 2:00 p.m. at the Vert Auditorium.
