Page 6A COMMUNITY East Oregonian Tuesday, December 13, 2016 Hermiston swim team dives into talent show Auditions Tuesday night at high school By TAMMY MALGESINI East Oregonian There’s still time to get your act together for the annual Hermiston High School swim team talent show. The final auditions for the event, which serves as a fundraiser for providing trans- portation for team practices, are Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 600 S. First St., Hermiston. There is no fee to compete for a spot in the show’s line-up. The show will feature between 35-40 acts, said Lynne Hamblin, who assists in organizing the event. All ages are welcome. Also, all sorts of talent is expected to take the stage — from singers and tap dancers to instrumen- talists and bands. All talent is considered. Hamblin said the event is designed as a variety show and people are welcome to juggle, do magic tricks and perform acrobatics, too. A best of show will be awarded for the overall winner. In addition, best talent for teens and children will be awarded. Prizes include Wal-Mart gift cards of different amounts. Also, money collected in jars for each act (money goes to the swim team), which serves as voting, will receive prizes. Hamblin said it costs about $5,000 to transport swimmers for daily practices to Pend- leton. Last year’s event raised about $4,000. The talent show is the main fundraiser held for the team. The talent show will be staged Saturday, Jan, 7 at 7 p.m. in the HHS auditorium. It costs $10 per person or $25 for a family. In addition to all the community talent that will be showcased, the boys’ swim team will perform a special dance during the show — based on previous year’s involvement by swim team members, people won’t want to miss it. Hamblin said it’s always entertaining. A raffle drawing will be held during the intermission. Items to be given away include an iPad, an arrangement from The Cottage, a pedicure/ manicure by Kacee Stewart and other gifts. In addition, a bake sale will be held during the intermission. For more information, contact Hamblin at 541-571- 5691 or lynne.hamblin@ hermiston.k12.or.us. ——— Contact Community Editor Tammy Malgesini at tmalge- sini@eastoregonian.com or 541-564-4539 File photo Corrina Tiboni sings ‘I Have Nothing,’ with accompaniment by Josh Rist, during a past Hermiston High School Swim Team Talent Show.
