weekend workshops INTRO TO FILM PHOTOGRAPHY ERICA EDWARDS, INSTRUCTOR Borrow a film camera or bring your own to experience taking and developing photos in film. We’ll go over the basics of film photography and camera use, spend some time capturing pictures, and then each student will develop their roll of film in our pop up dark room. With film negatives developed, the group will travel over to Pendleton Art and Frame to have our negatives scanned to digital files that students can print or share via the internet. Materials fee covers film, developing tools and materials, and cost of scanning. The PCA has 5 film cameras to lend out; if you’d like to use one please request it at registration. SATURDAY, FEB. 4, NOON – 4:00PM $30 MEMBERS / $35 NON-MEMBERS + $25 MATERIALS FEE ONE OF A KIND FABRICS AND PAPER ROBERTA LAVADOUR, INSTRUCTOR You can get your own original designs printed on wrapping paper, wall paper, cotton, fleece, or even faux leather! Roberta will show you how in this short but productive session. We’ll learn simple techniques that create sophisticated patterns. No drawing experience necessary - these cool designs emerge organically from creative play. From there we’ll upload and further manipulate our designs digitally using Spoonflower.com, a user-friendly website that lets you flip, rotate and repeat images to make a larger pattern. With designs completed, students can order printed paper and fabric directly through Spoonflower.com to use for cards, quilts, books, scarves, or any creative project! SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26, NOON – 4:00PM $30 MEMBERS / $35 NON-MEMBERS MAKING YARN WITH A DROP SPINDLE DELANNE FERGUSON, INSTRUCTOR Drop spindles have been used for thousands of years to make fiber into yarn, and with knowledge of materials and techniques, and a bit of practice, you can do it too! Delanne will teach the method as well as a little history on spinning to get you going on this absorbing and soul-pleasing activity. We’ll supply the fibers, students supply your own drop spindle; Delanne will have some good quality beginner spindles available for $20 at the workshop. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1:00 – 3:00PM $20 MEMBERS / $25 NON-MEMBERS + $5 MATERIALS FEE SMARTPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY BILL PEAL, INSTRUCTOR Elevate your cell phone pics from snapshots to works of art. We’ll begin at the PCA to discover how to use the hidden features and controls of your smartphone camera- the really helpful ones you wouldn’t stumble across on your own like the grid function or how to create depth of field. We’ll explore some great photo editing apps, too.
