papier-mâché – Erica Edwards TUESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, FEB. 21 – MARCH 21 (5 SESSIONS) art rocks teens The PCA’s Art Rocks Teens (A.R.T.) program provides FREE art and music workshops to 13-18 year olds. Run by the Teen Arts Council, A.R.T. offers a safe and creative after school option just for teens every Tuesday through Thursday from 3:30-5:00pm, with snacks available at 3:00pm. Enrollment in any A.R.T. workshop is at no cost to the student- all they need is a signed A.R.T. Parent Permission Form. Stop by the PCA to pick up a form, or print one off our website and bring it completed to your first class. To learn more about the Teen Arts Council, including benefits to teens and how to join, email our Coordinator of Education & Outreach at classes@ pendletonarts.org. Ever wanted to make a piñata? How about a mask? We’ll tackle those projects and more, learning the techniques and possibilities of paper and paste sculptures, aka papier-mâché, or, as translated to English, chewed paper sculpture. Cut and Paste Collage – Brandy Anderson WEDNESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, JAN. 11 – Feb. 1 (4 SESSIONS) Get creative with cut out images from magazines! Collage can elicit dreamy designs, images and narratives that you’d never come up with on your own (think Hannah Höch and the Dadaists). We’ll make some collages of our own that can be used for posters, t-shirt designs and more. BEGINNING GUITAR: FOR BRAND NEW BEGINNERS – J.D. KINDLE GUITAR 2: FOR EXPERIENCED BEGINNERS AND BEYOND – MIKE KELLISON THURSDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, JAN. 12 – MARCH 23 (11 SESSIONS) Meet with other musicians to practice songs and styles of your choice. If you have a couple songs in mind that you’d like to learn to play, tell Mike! He’ll help you figure out your favorite popular songs as well as teach the iconic Rock hits. Base players are welcome to join, and the PCA has some instruments available for students to use. New! Hermiston satellite class! BEGINNING GUITAR: FOR BRAND NEW BEGINNERS – Mike Kellison WEDNESDAYS, 4:00-5:30PM, JAN. 11 – MARCH 8 (9 SESSIONS) This class meets at the Hermiston Public Library. Come to the first class to get a parent permission form. WEDNESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, JAN. 11 – MARCH 1 (8 SESSIONS) Build a solid foundation for playing the guitar though learning basic chords, strumming patterns, and how to tune and restring your instrument. A variety of music styles will be covered (rock, country, folk, blues). No music experience necessary. Acoustic and electric guitars are welcome. Loaner instruments are available for the duration of the class. WORKING WITH CLAY – BRIAN PURNELL THURSDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, JAN. 12 – MARCH 23 (11 SESSIONS) Have you grown tired of art that’s just flat? Step into the third dimension with this workshop that will bring some depth into your world. Learn how to sculpt, build and construct clay in the PCA’s Alice Fossatti Ceramics Studio. Absolutely no experience working with clay is necessary. Beginners and returning students are all welcome.
