RECORDS Thursday, December 1, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG MONDAY 11:30 a.m. - A caller reported the theft of a rental car from Hop’s Auto Body Inc., 425 W. Elm Ave., Hermiston. 10:09 p.m. - A caller told Hermiston police the residents at a home on East Sunset Drive are neglecting their long-haired Chihuahua and violating the state’s tether law. The caller added she would post video of what’s happening to the dog on Facebook. TUESDAY 10:02 a.m. - The treasurer for a softball team told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office someone has been copying the team’s checks and cashing them, including a check for $1,300 in Alaska. The treasurer closed the account and said the problem could be at Banner Bank, Walla Walla. 12:05 p.m. - A woman asked Hermiston police how she could keep her stepdaughter from visiting her mother, where a registered sex offender resides. 1:28 p.m. - A Weston resident on South Water Street reported a medium-sized brown dog shredded her Nativity scene in the yard. She said this is a continual problem and the dog lives about a block away. And, she added, she was willing to sign a complaint. 2:28 p.m. - Caller reported someone six to eight weeks ago stole a 60-inch TV from The Wheat & Barley Pub, 201 W. Main St., Echo. 3:11 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a second-hand report of theft of multiple items from a residence at Green Acres Mobile Park, 53752 Appleton Road, Milton-Freewater. 3:37 p.m. - Umatilla police began investigating a report of a male misrepresenting himself as working for the Umatilla Port Of Entry, 1801 Highway 730, Umatilla. 4:09 p.m. - A Pilot Rock resident on Southeast Cherry Street told police vehicles speed by her home early each morning. 4:46 p.m. - Hermiston police received a request for extra patrols at the warming station, 1075 S. Highway 395, due a suspicious man who staff found sleeping on the porch and has been staying in a white Chevrolet Camaro near the station. 5:40 p.m. - A woman reported a 7-year-old child stole an iPad from a Hermiston school, and she was en route to the Hermiston Police Department with the child and the iPad. 6:50 p.m. - A caller reported a Mid Columbia bus did not have on headlights while driving at North First Street and East Gladys Avenue, Hermiston, and almost cut her off in traffic. She said she could not tell if students were on the bus. 8:01 p.m. - Law enforcement received a report of possible deer poaching. A caller said someone left a skinned buck carcass in a green tarp at the bend just past the Interstate 84 overpass at Southeast Goad Road. 8:19 p.m. - Oregon State Police asked Pendleton officers to find a woman after she walked away from a traffic stop. The trooper said she had an armload of stuff, and while there was no probable cause warrant to hold her, the trooper thought it was odd she left in a hurry. Pendleton police, though, did not find her. WEDNESDAY 2:53 a.m. - A Rieth man reported he woke to the sound of an explosion. He said this was not the first time he heard an explosion while falling asleep. Dispatchers noted he also sounded confused, but he asked to speak to a Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy. We’re not here to hand out medical advice, but the man might want to ask a doctor about “exploding head syndrome.” This is a real condition in which people perceive loud noises — an explosion, a door slamming shut, a gunshot — as they go to sleep or wake up. The condition does not cause pain but can cause confusion. According to the American Sleep Association, EHS could affect 10 percent of the population. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brian Larry Jenkins, 44, of 53785 W. Crockett Road, No. 6, Milton- Freewater, for first-degree theft and theft by receiving and on a warrant for failure to appear in a theft and trespassing case. East Oregonian OBITUARIES DEATH NOTICES Lowell Eugene Bruck Gwendolyn Jean Lewis Pendleton Oct. 20, 1969-Nov. 10, 2016 Pendleton September 23, 1924-November 24, 2016 Lowell Eugene Bruck, age 92, of Pendleton died November 24, 2016, at a local care facility. He was born September 23, 1924, in his parents’ home in Frog Pond located near Wilsonville, Oregon, to Louis Bruck H. Bruck and Ellen R. (Oldenstadt) Bruck. He attended grade school in Skunk Hollow and graduated from West Linn High School in 1943. He briefly worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and then from 1945 to 1947 he worked for the Johns, Smith and Beamer Ranch located near Athena. He returned to Wilsonville and later moved back to Adams and lived there from 1952 to 1957 working some of that time for Pendleton Ready Mix. On June 2nd, 1956, he married Marjorie Tucker Downing in Athena, Oregon, and then in 1957 he moved the family to Wilsonville where they lived on the farm where he was born. He took on various jobs from working in the Portland stock yard to raising hogs, horses, Page 5A and barley for hay, and also hauling livestock for various local farmers. Due to a back injury he decided to give up farming and moved to Adams in 1968 where he and his wife, Marge, owned and operated the Adams Store until 1986. During this time period he drove semi truck for various employers including Pat Davis, Quentin Rugg and Ben Christensen, and also hauled beer from Portland to Pendleton for Lucy Echanis. He enjoyed the outdoors so much that he would take the family for Sunday drives to the mountains. He was an avid deer and elk hunter and enjoyed sharing those stories. He is survived by his brother Wilbur Bruck (and Betty) of Wilsonville; daughter Cindy Powell (and Mark) of Pendleton; step- grandsons Jason Powell (and Jackie) and Shawn Powell, and stepdaughter Carolyn Carroll (and Ron) and their children and grandchildren.
