East Oregonian Page 3B SPORTS PREP FOOTBALL: Rockets host TigerScots with both looking for irst league win Thursday, October 13, 2016 Continued from 1B four-way tie for second place in the EOL and are ranked 18th by the OSAA, and a win over Vale would be a big step toward one of the league’s two postseason berths. NYSSA (2-3, 1-1) at IRRIGON (2-4, 1-1), 7 p.m. — Irrigon came close to pulling off a big upset at Vale last week, falling in overtime, and will try and rebound this week against a tough Nyssa squad that is fresh off of a 18-6 win over Burns. Irrigon had good success with its run game against Vale, running for more than 330 yards, which will be a big key for the Knights again this week. BURNS (4-2, 1-1) at RIVERSIDE (1-5, 0-2), 7 p.m. — The 2016 season has been a struggle for Riverside and last week’s game against Umatilla was no different as the Vikings shut them out 34-0. Burns suffered its irst league loss last week at home against Nyssa 18-6, and will look to keep up with playoff contention this week. In the Pirates two league games so far, Riverside has been outscored 60-6, and will need to ind an increase in offense against a tough Hilanders defense if they hope to pull off an upset. WESTON-MCEWEN (1-5, 0-2) at PILOT ROCK (0-5, 0-1), 7 p.m. — The 2016 season has been a struggle for both Weston- McEwen and Pilot Rock and it continued last week with the TigerScots falling 74-26 to Stanield and Pilot Rock losing 52-20 to Heppner. This week, both teams will look to right the ship and pick up their irst, and possibly only league win of the season on Friday night. STANFIELD (6-0, 2-0) at LA CENTER (WA) (5-1), 7 p.m. — After breezing through the irst two games of its league schedule, Stan- ield will head north for some non-league action against a solid La Center (WA) team on Friday night. La Center plays in Class 1A in Washington and currently sits atop its division with a 2-0 record. Since a week one loss, La Center has won ive straight games by an average margin of 36-10, presenting another good test for the Tigers. JOSEPH (3-3, 2-1) at ECHO (2-3, 1-2), 7 p.m. — Echo hopes to rebound from a 54-6 blowout at the hands of Powder Valley last week, while Joseph is determined to make it two-in-a-row following a win over Cove. SHERMAN (5-1, 4-0) at ARLINGTON (4-1, 3-1), 7 p.m. — The Honkers had some deja vu last week when their four game win streak and hot start to the season was ended by Dufur for the second year in a row with a 58-14 loss. Arlington faces another steep test on Friday when Sherman, ranked No. 8 right now in Class 1A, comes to town fresh off of a 70-6 win over Mitchell/Spray/Wheeler.
