The local called police and reported the driver was “tweaking out, on the inluence of something.” 7:57 a.m. - A caller at DG Gifts & Screen Printing, 3535 Westgate, Pendleton, reported a semitrailer turned around in the parking lot and clipped the side of the building. 8:04 a.m. - Someone drove over a cat on Northeast Fourth Street, Hermiston, and its owner reported the pet was still moving and off the street in front of the house. 8:47 a.m. - The driver of the “Ranger” school bus in Pendleton drew a complaint for speeding through a school zone. The caller said she reported this before to the bus company, but it did nothing. 9:12 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice received a call about possible horse neglect and abuse near Milton-Freewater. 12:35 p.m. - Two homeless men urinated behind a car in a parking lot of the 600 block of Southwest Emigrant Avenue. They were gone before police arrived. 1 p.m. - A woman reported the theft of her sister’s gray 2002 Ford Taurus from Southwest Fifth Street about two hours earlier. 2:57 p.m. - A caller asked Hermiston police to check on the welfare of two toddlers an adult left locked in a white pickup at the McDonald’s parking lot, 1320 N. First S., Hermiston. 4:52 p.m. - A Pendleton-area man asked the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice for advice. He said at about 3 p.m. he sold a car for $850, then the buyer called and claimed the engine blew and she wanted her money back. 4:54 p.m. - A 10-year-old boy ended up with bumps and bruises after a car struck him at Village East Apartments, 230 E. Dogwood Ave., Hermiston. Police Chief Jason Edmiston reported witnesses told police the child rode out into the roadway in front of the driver. The driver swerved to avoid the child, but caught the tire of the bicycle. Speeds were estimated at 5 mph, according to Edmiston, and police gave no citations. 5:11 p.m. - Someone broke into the Oregon Lottery machines at Stet’s Steakhouse, 1619 N. First St., Hermiston. 5:48 p.m. - A woman reported her friend in Pendleton had chest pains and other medical issues, including black feet with maggots on them. 6:14 p.m. - A man arrived at his home on Northwest 11th Street, Pendleton, and found someone had broke into his shop and tools were missing. 6:45 p.m. - A Umatilla resident reported receiving a bill from a university for $1,900, but it was fraudulent. 7:18 p.m. - A Pendleton man reported the theft of two ladders worth $500 from his home on Southwest Runnion Avenue. 10:18 p.m. - A resident on Lyle Lane, Milton-Freewater, told law enforcement she can see a prowler outside her home. Barbara M. Biamont Oregon City Feb. 11, 1927-Oct. 1, 2016 Barbara M. Biamont, 89, of Oregon City died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1927, in La Grande. Since that time, the husband and wife duo have been serving up their craft brewed compositions — a term coined from their more than 130 performances at craft breweries throughout the United States and into Canada. Continuing to tour in support of their 2015 album “We Found Roads” and their recently released EP, “The Only You EP,” You Knew Me When is cruising into Eastern Oregon this weekend. The public is invited to hear the duo, which is outitted with an array of instruments that presents a full band sound. You Knew Me When will perform Friday at 6 p.m. at 40 Taps, 337 S.W. While blending their vocals, Karisa, who previously served as a tenured Nashville public school music teacher, provides the piano, ukulele, glockenspiel, and percussive elements — as Cie, who spent several years as the global events manager for Gibson Guitar, supplies the guitar and other rhythmic nuances. The cumulative result is a musical style and live show that blends a singer-song- writer soul with a pop/rock mentality. BRIEFLY Domestic violence awareness events taking place around region In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, several remembrance events are planned in the area. Pendleton library friends announce book sale PENDLETON — Books, books and more books are featured during the annual Pendleton Friends of the Library Book Sale. Block party celebrates children’s museum PENDLETON — The Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon is throwing a block party in celebration of its 20th anniversary. The event features live music by Dakota Brown, a beer garden, food, and kid’s activities including face painting, bouncy houses, carnival games and pumpkin painting. Games are $1 per ticket and $5 for a bounce house pass. The fun is Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the 400 block of Main Street, Pendleton. During Brown’s set, an intermission at 6:15 p.m. will feature a time of recognition for key people who were instrumental in getting the museum of the ground. PENDLETON — The Oregon Wheat Foundation will provide up to 12 scholar- ships for high school seniors whose families are grower members of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. The scholarship is also open to students who work part-time for grower members. Students whose family members are employed by an OWGL member are also eligible. The scholarship require- ments include an essay on any topic related to the wheat industry and a summary of the student’s school and commu- nity involvement. One $1,000 award will be made to a qualifying student from each of the participating counties, which include Baker, Gilliam, Klamath, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Wasco. In addition, up to two awards will be made in the Willamette Valley Counties and one in the Central Oregon Counties.
