Katie is the daughter Hal and Mary Ann McCune of Pendleton. She graduated from Pendleton High School and the University of Idaho. James is the son of Frank and Tianna Stanek of Maple Valle, Wash. He graduated from high school in Maple Valley, and from the University of Idaho. The maid of honor was Nicole Harris, the bride’s sister. The best men were Chris Satre, the groom’s childhood friend, and Chris Buchberger, his cousin. Katie’s brothers, Gabe and Jake, were groomsman, and her niece, Pearl, was a Contributed photo Pilot Rock commemorates 15th anniversary of 9/11 Newport man sings praises for Pendleton Men’s Chorus McKay Creek residents get connected One fi ne June day this year, Saturday the 25th to be exact, a group of enthu- siastic, fi nely dressed, and well-practiced men, calling themselves the Pendleton Men’s Chorus, presented an unforgettable concert in Newport, Oregon. Our Newport audiences were entertained with an eclectic program, which ranged from folk songs to opera and everything in between. It was an event! I want to thank each and every one of those men for their willingness to share their talent and energy. It was a special evening to benefi t our capital campaign and to share our wonderful new Constellation Acoustic System with them. What a generous group, led by the famous Bill Mayclin. They gave of their time, and spent their own dimes to travel and stay in Newport to present the concert. Jean Thomson enjoyed zumba and Teresa Ramirez and Jack Kimball got con- nected with social media. Time: Find a Friend. Many of the residents have Facebook accounts and gathered in the activity room to search for their friends online. Jack Kimball got connected with a handful of friends and families. In addition, other residents were happy to see former staff via Facebook and reconnecting to some former residents that moved to other Prestige Care facilities. Residents at McKay Creek Estates enjoyed double the fun during Pend- leton Round-Up — as staff and friends also celebrated National Assisted Living Week. Executive Director Noemi Wiseman said they were honored to have Neal Brown, president of the Pendleton City Council, on hand to proclaim the celebratory week. He later joined the residents for lunch. “With this year’s theme, Keep Connected, the resi- dents were able to engage on modern technology activities, such as using cellphones, computers and other gadgets,” Wiseman said. Family members sent e-cards to facility residents. Shirley Peterson, Wiseman said, was astonished to receive a special e-card from her granddaughter in celebra- tion of National Grandparents Day. “Her smile was priceless as volunteer-daughters of Nicole McClelland, one of the medtechs delivered the e-card,” Wiseman added. Also, staff and residents tried Tai Chi by watching an instructor via YouTube. Several residents enjoyed online Wheel of Fortune. Another fun and exciting activity was Facebooking James Stanek and Katie McCune Another familiar face was Fran Rennick, who is now living in High Desert, a Pres- tige facility in Bend. “It is always nice to recon- nect with residents and how this modern technology can make it possible,” Wiseman said. Online shopping, which was led by Doris Ferguson and Kris Travers, was a big hit. They ordered pizza from Domino’s and consumed it during happy hour. The last day of the celebration featured zumba via the internet. Even residents who use wheelchairs were able to join the zumba session. The week also included a Staff Appreciation Day to acknowledge and thank them for touching the lives of McKay Creek residents. It included raffl e drawings, staff recognitions and food. “I would like to congrat- ulate the entire team for all the hard work, dedication and compassion, as we continue to touch the lives of our resi- dents,” Wiseman said.
