On offense: Riverside was third in the EOL with 23 goals
last season, and Velasco said the key to a stronger offense
this season will start on defense with quick touches.
On defense: The Pirates’ 31-goals allowed in 2015 was infl ated by a
couple of non-league blowouts to 4A opponents, and Riverside returns
most of the pieces from a defense that only gave up 10 goals in league
play. The Pirates will use double stoppers at times.
Velasco’s key to the season:
“Always keep my players in shape.”
