She lives in Heppner with her human parents and her four canine siblings. Bella may look familiar to our readers. Now approximately 11-12 years old, the mixed-breed Labrador lived on the streets near the Stafford Hansell Government Center, Hermiston. Robin Barker and other volunteers were inally able to capture her in Feb. 2010. A March 2010 East Oregonian story about the rescue was picked up by the Associated Press and was shared across the country. Owned by the Paxton family Deuce, 5, a Doberman pinscher, takes an afternoon nap with Dave Paxton in their Hermiston home. Owned by Adison Sall and Emma Warren Mini, a 5-year-old dachshund mix, lives in Hermiston. She subscribes to the Starbucks mission of inspiring and nurturing the human spirit — one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. Owned by Tiffanie Andrews-Rost Oliver (aka Cumbrian Bostonian JH), lives in Adams. The 6-year-old English pointer wants to make friends with inhabitants of the birdhouse. BIRTHS Owned by Helen Matson Happy Gus Matson, was adopted at about 6 months old, sight unseen, after Helen Matson made a phone call to S.W.A.T. (Saving Wonderful Animals Team), a former Walla Walla rescue group. Now about 9 years old, Gus is a mixed breed with Labrador, basset hound and retrievers in his DNA. In addition to cooling off in a pool at his Milton-Freewater home, Gus has lots of Facebook friends to keep up with. For more than 50 years my family and I have used Pendleton as a pit stop between Portland and Salt Lake City, Utah. Several weeks ago we stopped in Pendleton on our way to Oregon. We wanted something different for dinner other than what you would get at a drive-through window. So we asked Siri. She recommended Great Paciic Wine & Coffee Co., so we ventured out and went there. The pizza was amazing, the best I have ever had. On our trip back to Salt Lake City we had to stop again at Great Paciic Wine & Coffee. It was Saturday evening, and there were more than 20 people sitting in a circle playing musical instruments and singing. It was the coolest thing ever. I just had to ilm some of the music, but unfortunately, my battery on my cell phone was dead. I ran over to Zimmerman True Value where James Naughton was locking up. Thankfully, he invited me in and helped me ind a charger. Sadly, they did not Owned by Barb Wattenburger Belle, a 5-year-old Labrador, and 9-year-old Manny, a Shih Tzu-ahuh (a name made up by Barb Wattenburg- er for her Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix). The canine sib- lings, who live in Hermiston, love to hang out in the park — which is evidenced by the smiles on their faces. I really wanted to show my friends and family a video of the people playing and singing. I got back to the Great Paciic Wine & Coffee and was enjoying the music when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see James from the hardware store. He had found a charger that I could borrow. He told me to use it and leave it with Carol [Hanks], the owner, when I was done. I was able to record a couple of songs to take home and show my friends and family. This is the heart of a great community — people that go out of their way to look after a stranger, people that love each other’s company and people that give their time to make someone happy. You just don’t see that too often anymore. I just want to give a special thanks to James at Zimmerman True Value for going above and beyond to help me share the experience.
