She lived up Cupper Creek on a small ranch with her parents and siblings Thelma, Wilbur, Billy, Jake and Hugh. She attended high school in Portland, Oregon, at Poly Technical School. She met Harold Wright in 1940, and they were married in October 1941. They made their home on Rhea Wright Creek in Ruggs, Oregon. They lived there for the next 50 years, raising sheep, cattle and llamas, and then purchased the ¿rst herd of buffalo in the state of Oregon. She was a wonderful homemaker, and was an excellent cook and seamstress. She raised a wonderful garden and enjoyed working in her yard. Mary was a member of the grange for over 60 years. Their son Kenneth Carl Wright was born Sept 1, 1946. He brought them many happy memories through his school years and ranch years. He was active in sports, 4-H, and FFA. He joined them at the ranch and helped manage a small store on the property, the ranch and the ranch trucking company. The ranch was sold in 1996 and Mary helped care for her husband Harold until his death in 1999. Mary moved to Newberg, Oregon, in 2001 to be closer to Hugh Jackson and family. It was a good move for her and she had many new adventures and made many new friends. Most important, Mary enjoyed the role of grandmother to Hugh and June’s four children: Clyde, Candye, Craig and Cindy. They played a critical role in her life and she loved them all very much. In 2011, Mary moved to assisted living in Sherwood so she could receive a little extra support. She was very proud that of her sharp mind and ability to stay fairly independence most of her 94 years of her life. Mary is survived by her son Kenneth Wright and his partner Fonda; her brother Hugh Jackson and his wife Paula; Clyde Jackson; Craig and Amy Jackson; Cindy Jackson and John Phelan; Candye and Wade Parkin; grand- children Kim Williamson, Nance Keeney and Brent Wright; great-grandchildren; and many great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Thelma Maley, brothers Wilbur Flower, Billy Flower and Jake Flower; husband Harold Wright; and sister- in-law June Jackson. A special thanks to the staff at the Springs at Sher- wood, Providence Home Health and Hospice who provided compassionate care and support the last six months of Mary’s life. Organizers were looking to highlight “The Rocks” district of the town, the American Viticultural Area designation and the free live rock and country music that plays on the main stage throughout the weekend. They came up with Milton-Freewater Rocks! “The fact that we have a whole new name is exciting,” said Jennifer Zerba, Milton-Freewater Chamber of Commerce interim execu- tive director. “And with that, a new direction.” For the past 35 years, the festival has been referred to as the Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival. Some local teens had been calling the town Muddy Frogwater since the early 1970s. The town had a Pea Festival during the 1960s and later a summer Corn Roast, which was re-titled when it expanded to the week- end-long Muddy Frogwater Festival. Milton-Freewater Rocks! kicks off Friday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon at Yantis Park. New activities during the event include a quilt show and Sip & Paint for festival-goers who are 21 and older. Local educator Jennifer Hegdal will provide instruction. “You can do an art piece while sipping wine,” Zerba said. There will be plenty of food available during the weekend, including the Ambassador’s Breakfast (Friday, 7-9 a.m.), the Rotary Pulled Pork Dinner (Friday, 5-6:30 p.m.), the Elks’ Annual Breakfast It’s not like her.
