RECORDS Tuesday, August 16, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG East Oregonian OBITUARIES FRIDAY 12:29 a.m. - A Weston man on East Cherry Street reported teens are coming to bang on the side of his trailer about every 45 minutes. 10:47 a.m. - A caller reported a local woman who also is an offender broke into a residence at Locust Mobile Village on North Elizabeth Street, Milton-Freewater. 1:56 p.m. - Boys and girls, a caller reported, fought in the road on Northwest 12th Street, Pendleton. 2:15 p.m. - A caller at Knights Inn, 310 S,E, Dorion Ave,, Pendleton, reported the theft of a Play Station and a tablet computer. 2:52 p.m. - The wave of bicycle thefts continued in Milton- Freewater. Three residents in less than three hours reported thefts on the 1000 block of Northeast Third Avenue, the 800 block of Davis Street, and the 800 block of Northwest First Avenue. 3:48 p.m. - Umatilla Tribal Police Department asked the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice to send a deputy to look for an all-terrain vehicle with a sprayer unit attached because someone stole it and could be trying to sell it. 5:46 p.m. - A woman reported a red vehicle pulled in front of her at Paterson Ferry Road and Interstate 84, Boardman, and she swerved to avoid the crash but rolled her vehicle. She said she and her 11-year-old son were OK, though. 6:01 p.m. - A male and female screamed and threw things at each other on the patio at Quizno’s, 204 S.W. 20th St., Pendleton. 7:30 p.m. - An anonymous caller told Pendleton police a person living on the 400 block of Southwest 17th Street sprayed pesticides that could be harmful to people. 8:37 p.m. - Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice received a report of domestic violence at a home on South Franklin Street, Weston. 8:42 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a son beating his mother then leeing the house. Police did not ind the suspect. 9:22 p.m. - A Pendleton man on Southwest Sixth Street reported the theft of his 8-year-old son’s bicycle. He said the boy came into the house crying because the bike was gone and someone replaced it with another bike. No one saw who did this, though, and it is similar to an incident that happened Aug. 2 in Milton-Freewater. Robert G. Bafus Lois Key Parent Pullman, Wash. July 24, 1937-August 5, 2016 Puyallup, Wash. July 15, 1927-August 6, 2016 Robert G. Bafus, 79, Pullman resident and formerly of Pendleton, Oregon, passed away August 5, 2016, in Pullman surrounded by his children. Bob will be entombed at Olympic Memo- rial Gardens in Tumwater, Wash- ington, privately by his family on Saturday, August 20th. A Celebration of Life reception for family and friends will follow from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Waterstreet Cafe, 610 Water St., in Olympia. Bob was Bafus born July 24, 1937, in Colfax, Washington, to Robert and Lenore (Cronk) Bafus. His early years were spent on his family farm near Garield where he developed a lifelong friendship with his cousin, Gary Cronk. The two spent many years together on their grandparents’ farm and forged a tight bond. Bob started school in Steptoe until he and his mother moved to Olympia, Washington. He completed high school there, graduating from Olympia High School in 1955. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school, serving on the destroyer USS Halsey Powell. Bob and Gary served in the Navy at the same time. They had very fond memories of their service and a lot of stories they’ve told over, and over, all these years! After the Navy, he returned to the Palouse and attended Washington State College. Bob married Star Johnson In Olympia on June 14, 1958. They irst made their home on a farm of his dad’s near Cecil, Oregon, and began their family there. Bob and Star were later divorced. Bob loved farming and SATURDAY 6:45 a.m. Someone opened mailboxes and scattered mail at Lind and Bensel roads, Hermiston. A report also came in at 9:35 a.m. about mail theft on Sagebrush Road, Hermiston. 3:27 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a possible drunken teen driver in a white Acura at KFC, 1615 S.E. Emigrant Ave. 4:13 p.m. - A Pilot Rock man reported he bought a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pickup last month but was concerned the license plates could belong to a different vehicle. 4:56 p.m. - Irrigon residents reported a man they did not know was lying on the neighbor’s yard. A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy and an Irrigon ambulance responded, and the deputy gave the man a ride to Umatilla. 5:30 p.m. - A man reported the theft of his license plates from McNary Beach on Beach Access Road, Umatilla. 7:10 p.m. - Yet another bicycle theft in Milton-Freewater, this one from the 200 block of Dehaven Street. The caller said someone cut the lock on the BMX-style bike. Police, though, later found the bike in another part of town. 10:48 p.m. - A caller reported gunshots and ireworks going off by “The Cliffs” swimming hole on the Umatilla River near Rieth. SUNDAY 1:52 a.m. - An emergency caller reported a man punched a woman in the face at Hermiston High School, 600 First St., Hermiston, but no one was there by the time oficer arrived. 10:58 a.m. - Someone stole two marijuana plants from an Athena home on East High Street. Yes, that was the street that caller gave. 1:41 p.m. - Two “transient looking” people on Bridgeport Avenue, Umatilla, went house to house plugging cell phone chargers into outdoor power outlets. 5:31 p.m. - A Pendleton woman reported the theft of her iPad mini and a tablet from her home on Southwest Hailey Avenue and said someone compromised her husband’s PayPal account for more than $92. 5:55 p.m. - An employee of the Pendleton Family Aquatic Center, 1901 N.W. Carden Ave., asked for police to trespass people refusing to leave the pool after they brought alcohol onto the property. 6:59 p.m. - A woman told Pendleton police a man she knows spit in her face at a house on Southeast Second Street and harassed her. 9:05 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report that a resident at the end of Southeast Seventh Street off Byers Avenue argues with his girlfriend under a neighbor’s window, then threatens people who ask what is going on. 11:55 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice received a report of a Hermiston man posting cockighting videos on Facebook. enjoyed working the land wherever he was. He farmed at a family farm in Steptoe from 1962 to 1970, then moved to another near Adams, Oregon. He married Victoria Pearson at Pendleton, Oregon, on October 3, 1974, where he farmed for several more years until his retirement. Bob was an avid Cougar fan, past member of the Elks Lodge and loved to golf, winning several tournaments. They moved to Pullman ive years ago to be closer to family. Bob is survived by his wife Victoria at their Pullman home; his children Kathi (Steve) McMillan, also of Pullman, Kim (Mike) Welling of Burlington, Wash- ington, and Rob (Renae) Bafus of Troy, Idaho; six grandchildren, Kyle and Kirk Magill, Jordan (Tara) Welling, Kendra (Jake) Riley, and Zach and Leah Bafus, and one great-grandson, Aiden Magill; his stepson, Mike Beman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three stepgrandchildren, Brittany, Amy and Jake; and his sister, Connie Hyde of Ellensburg, Washington, and brother Bud Moore of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfa- ther, Dr. Troy Moore, whom he adored and went on many ishing trips with to Canada that were never forgotten. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to ASPCA (aspca.org) for cruelty to animals or to Kindred Hospice in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family. Lois and George lived in Omaha, Nebraska, in the summer months and winters in Arizona, with trips in between through Oregon to visit siblings, family and friends. After George’s death Lois moved in 1998 to Puyallup to live with her son Stephen, and later with her daughter Karen. Lois is survived by her younger siblings Wilma Shaffer of Walla Walla, Laverne Bilyeu (Rolland) of Albany, Carol Koch (James) of Las Vegas and Lewis Key (Patty) of Milton-Freewater. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lois had previously had long visits with friends and family and requested there not be a service. The family plans to have a private gathering in the spring to return her ashes to Weston, Oregon, to be near her parents. DEATH NOTICES Forest E. Lois was born to Claude L. and Hazel Esther Key (Wilson) at the family home on Dry Creek in Milton-Free- water. She attended grade and high schools in the Milton-Freewater area. Lois attended Oregon State College, taking courses in home economics, which she used to lead sewing and tailoring classes with the Fruitvale Home Extension group and 4-H groups in the area. Because of her love for sewing, she made many articles of clothing for her family and extended family members. Lois marred Herbert Parent June 30, 1947. They made their home near Umapine where they operated a dairy and raised turkeys. After Herb’s death Lois moved to Tempe, Arizona, in 1977 to ill in for daughter Claudia while she was on maternity leave from Motorola.
