The institution is thus placed upon a business basis preparatory to perfecting the organization that will make the third annual show much superior to its two predecessors. Happy Canyon will have a capital stock of only $600. Of this amount $500 will be in preferred stock and will be held by the Commercial association. This stock will derive all of such revenue as results from the show. The balance of $100 will be divided into 100 shares of one dollar each and will be held by business men of the commu- nity. This stock will hold the voting power but will be non-dividend bearing so that no individual will proit from the institution. 50 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Aug. 12, 1966 Pendleton Grain Growers, Inc., has negoti- ated the terms of a $500,000 contract with the John Hogenson Construction Co. of Minneap- olis, Minn., to build a new sub-terminal grain elevator on the Columbia River at the Port of Umatilla site above McNary Dam. This would be the irst major construction project on the port property. James Hill Jr., general manager of PGG, said “Plans are now being completed and we expect constructing begin in September so the plant will be ready for the 1967 grain crop.” The new PGG Umatilla elevator is to be just east of the present Port of Umatilla public dock a few hundred yards above McNary Dam. PGG is purchasing 6.9 acres of ground and water area from the port at a cost of $25,000. 25 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Aug. 12, 1991 A 48-year-old Pendleton man was charged with several crimes, including arson, in Jefferson County last week. Dale J. Ruona, who gave an address for a motel on Southeast Court in Pendleton, was arrested for allegedly setting ire to two automatic teller machines at Madras banks, and for painting a building and a road sign with shoe polish. Ruona faces similar problems for incidents which allegedly occurred in Pendleton in July.
