Kimber Smith- hart, 20, called Pendleton police at 12:24 a.m. Monday, reporting that two men had broken into the apartment and were assaulting her father. “It was not a random situation. The suspects were apparently looking for someone else, members of the victim’s family,” said Ed Taber, Pendleton police chief. Joseph Smith- hart, 62, was knocked down and struck several times with a baseball bat. When police oficers arrived, the suspects had already left the scene in a car. Police arrested Garza shortly thereafter at Southwest Hailey Avenue and S.W. 28th St. The other suspect was not in the car, but police knew who he was and were hunting for him.
