RECORDS Thursday, June 30, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG 8:06 a.m. - A man told Pendleton police he paid $7 cash for gas two weeks ago at a station on Westgate but did not believe he received any fuel. 8:20 a.m. - Four people slept — and trespassed — by the door at the Salvation Army Community Center, 150 S.E. Emigrant Ave., Pendleton, and one sleeper had his pants down. 12:10 p.m. - A male acted aggressively toward a female during an argument while walking on East Coe Avenue, Stanield, toward South Edwards Road. 1:50 p.m. - Pendleton police received a request to check on a resident at Blue Mountain Village Apartments, 2700 S.W. Goodwin Ave., Pendleton, who could be using drugs and has a small baby. 2:35 p.m. - Someone dumped three truckloads of tires at the McNary Yacht Club, 34099 Beach Shore Drive, Hermiston. 2:38 p.m. - A Milton-Freewater resident reported the theft of a revolver from the 900 block of Cowl Street. 2:43 p.m. - A man said he was a guest at a Pendleton hotel a couple of weeks ago on his way to see his father who suffered a heart attack in Utah when someone stole the $800 luggage container from his vehicle and about $1,200 in clothing, and they damaged the vehicle as well. 3:28 p.m. - A Umatilla man reported his “ex” broke into his house on El Monte Street. 6:50 p.m. - Three people got into a ight behind In-Home Medical Inc., 301 S.W. 20th St., Pendleton. 7:20 p.m. - A Stanield mother told police she gave her son 30 days to move from her property on East Harding Avenue, and he threw her refrigerator out of the residence. 7:23 p.m. - A caller told Pendleton police a man on Northwest Sixth Street punched a dog in the face and threw the dog by the collar. Police were not able to ind the dog abuser. 7:36 p.m. - Someone slashed the tires on a four-wheeler at Birch Creek and Tum A Lum roads, Milton-Freewater. 8:29 p.m. - Thieves took a big screen TV, a Blu-ray player and more from a home on East Punkin Center Road, Hermiston. The house sitter reported she was gone for a month on military training, and the occupant is on military deployment. 8:54 p.m. - Pendleton police received a call for an oficer to check on the well-being of people renting a home on Southeast 16th Street after a female there threatened to kill people. 9:38 p.m. - Oregon State Police and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Southwest Wyoming Avenue, Lexington. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Pendleton police arrested Mariah Shaunika Ray Wright, 24, and Cameron Spencer Smith, 20, both of Pendleton, for third-degree assault. Police Chief Stuart Roberts reported they beat a male that owed them money for marijuana. HERMISTON Dog attack sends woman to hospital A 59-year-old Hermiston woman was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center Tuesday morning after a reported dog attack. Emergency services responded to the walking path parallel to Diagonal Road near Hermiston around 8:45 a.m. Sgt. Joshua Roberts of the Umatilla County Sheriff’s ofice said the woman sustained a laceration on her arm that required medical attention, but was not life- threatening. The owner of the dog was cited and is required to quarantine the animal for the next 10 days. The case is still active and has been referred to the Umatilla District Attorney’s ofice. James C. ‘Jim’ Benson Rose Carey Boardman September 21, 1955-June 27, 2016 Pendleton August 31, 1937-June 25, 2016 James C. “Jim” Benson, 60, of Boardman died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. He was born September 21, 1955, at Weiser, Idaho, the son of Clarence and Betty Emert Benson. Jim was raised in the mill town of Kinzua, Oregon, then moved to Heppner, Oregon, when the Kinzua mill shut down. He worked at Kinzua Pine Mill in Heppner for a Benson time before moving to Battle Mountain, Nevada, where he worked for over 20 years as an equipment oper- ator in gold mining. In 2003 Jim returned to Morrow County settling in Boardman, Oregon, to be closer to family and the Columbia River. He was employed by the city of Boardman. He established a relationship with Beverly Crum and the couple was recently married at Boardman. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and ishing, especially for sturgeon in the Columbia River. Survivors include his wife Beverly Benson; daughters Jessica (Walter) and Alison (Isaac); brothers Ronald and Richard; sister Nancy; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Clarence “JR” Benson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ione Education Foundation, PO Box 61, Ione, OR 97843. She attended Boardman public schools, graduating from high school in 1955. She then attended Maryl- hurst College in Portland for a year. Rose married Bill in 1960 and started their family in Pendleton, Ore. Rose was employed at Jaynes Business Machines and U.S. Bank in her early years. She then worked as the catalog supervisor at J.C. Penney. She retired in 2006 after 25-plus years. She lived her life as a devoted Catholic and often prayed for others. Rose was the glue that held her family together. She was a humble, loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. Her pride and joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose enjoyed the outdoors, camping, walking and gardening. She enjoyed being the host for all the family gatherings and holi- days. She also had a passion for cooking and spending time with her family. She loved visiting the coast. She found herself reading in her spare time, as well as telling stories about her child- hood. Everyone who was close to Rose knew she had indescribable sense of humor that would cause everyone around her to laugh and smile. Her humor often relected her strong political views. She faced pulmonary ibrosis with great courage and strength She is survived by her husband Bill of Pendleton; sister Bea Ledbetter of Pendleton; brother Peter Cassidy of Morgan Hill, Calif.; sons Patrick of Pendleton and Daniel of Meacham, Ore.; daughters Jeanette (Bill Thomas) of Pendleton, Chris Gilman (Tim) of Boise, Idaho, and Ann Zyph (Bill) of Pendleton; grandchildren Chad Thomas, Renee Hilderbrand, Shelby Carey, Sierra Carey, Colton Carey, Chyenne Carey, Ryan Carey, Kimmy Carey, Tyler Zyph, Caitlin Zyph, Ian Gilman and Cassidy Gilman; great-grandchil- dren Shaelee, Aden, Jace, Cade, Emmalyn Hilder- brand, Brittany and Ryker Thomas, Lannie Carey, and Alex Warneking.
