August 30, 1933-June 10, 2016 Lynda Kinney passed quietly in her home on Tuesday surrounded by her family. Lynda was born in Salem, Oregon, on February 2nd, 1967. She was raised in Pend- leton and attended Pendleton High School. Always the vagabond, she worked in the travel industry and was always ready to take on the next adventure. Lynda eventually found herself working for All Alaskan Seafoods in Alaska where she met her husband of 23 years, Edward “Ed” Kinney Kinney. Lynda and Ed relocated to Salem, Oregon, and ran their own trucking business and eventually relocated to Pend- leton to be closer to family. Lynda became a grand- mother in 2010 and was truly overjoyed to be “Nana Lynn” to her little “Sophie.” She also enjoyed her many collections and being a mom to her “furry” children. Lynda is survived by her husband Ed Kinney of Pend- leton; son Chris McClellan of Pendleton; parents Bud and Maxine McClellan of Pend- leton; sister Michelle Sykes of Pendleton; brothers Carl McClellan of Corvallis and Tim McClellan of Pendleton; granddaughter Sophia McClellan of Pendleton; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia “Trish” Manley Moses, 69, passed away May 19, 2016, at home to pancre- atic cancer after a two-year battle. Trish was born on July 19, 1946, in Weiser, Idaho, to Richard “Dick” and Geraldine “Jeri” Manley. Trish was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and she will be sorely missed by all. She gave her husband, Ron Moses, 26 of the best years of their lives together. Trish graduated from Hermiston, Ore., in 1965. For the last 26 years she Moses made her home in Meridian, Idaho. Trish worked at Meridian Ford and Dan Wiebold Ford. When she retired, she enjoyed gardening and lowers, espe- cially zinnias. Her home was always a showplace. Trish has always had a love for nice fast cars and hot rods. She couldn’t stand a dirty car, which is a trait she inherited from her father. Her latest was a beautiful ’71 Mach One 429 Ram Air; unfortunately, she only had the opportunity to drive it two times around the block due to the cancer. She really loved that car. She is survived by her husband, Ron; daughters Natalie (Rick) Van Cleave, Kimberly Werner, Letha Brown and Travis; brother Delwin Manley; stepsons Trent, Seth and Kyle Moses; grandchil- dren Megan Katie, Miranda, Brandon, Jacob, Tristen, Austin, Amanda and Robert; special friend Yolonda Gerosin, who gave her strength in the end; and longtime friends Skip and Karen Shanafelt. Traditional undergraduate students must earn a 3.5 grade point average or above on 12 or more hours of graded work to earn a spot on the dean’s list. New group publisher to lead The Daily Astorian EO Media Group Northwest newspaper executive David Pero has been named group publisher of The Daily Astorian and its companion publications on the Oregon Coast. He succeeds Steve Forrester, who is retiring as publisher after 28 years in Astoria. Pero, 59, will serve as editor and publisher of The Daily Astorian. As group publisher, he will oversee all operations on the Pero coast for the Asto- rian, Seaside Signal, Cannon Beach Gazette, Coast River Business Journal and Chinook Observer. He will begin work in Astoria on July 11. “I really look forward to joining The Daily Astorian, which has such a great history of serving Astoria and all of the coastal communities, and to continuing that mission and tradition. It is an outstanding family-owned company, with an excellent staff in a terriic community. I can’t wait to be part of each,” Pero said. Pero most recently was chief operating oficer for the Register-Guard in Eugene. In that capacity, Pero was responsible for day-to-day operations of that family-owned 55,000-circulation daily newspaper, along with several niche publica- tions and digital publishing. Other responsibilities included inancial and budgeting oversight, strategic positioning, new business and commercial printing development. During Pero’s tenure at the newspaper, it was twice awarded the Oregon Newspaper Publisher’s Association’s highest honor for overall general excellence. Its website was named best in the state for several years. The newspaper was also recognized for excellence by several national organizations. Mary “Jean” Beaton Cruz, 82, passed away at her Sea Tac home June 10, 2016, surrounded by her children and family, after a three-year courageous battle with Bulbar Amyotrophic Lateral Scle- rosis (ALS). The second of two chil- dren, Jean was born August 30, 1933, to Angus and Eva Beaton. She grad- uated from Olean High School in 1950 and attended Mercy Nursing School in Buffalo, N.Y., gradu- ating in 1953. There she met a handsome young intern, Floro Cruz, and they were Cruz married in 1954. That same year, Floro and Jean moved west to Butte, Montana, going back to New York in 1957 before returning to Butte in 1959. Four children later, they moved to Seattle in 1961 where they had their last two children, raising all six children in the Seattle area until 1973, when they moved to Pendleton, Oregon. In 1981 they relocated back to the Seattle area. Jean was dedicated to her family and grandchildren. Memories of “Gramma’s Camp” will live on for years. She tirelessly worked on a book that was published in 2003 about her deaf-blind son, titled “The Road To Autonomy.” She lived a life of helping people and, as a regis- tered nurse, worked at hospi- tals in New York, Montana, Washington and Oregon until her retirement. Jean took great satisfaction in being able to bring communion to conined and ill parishioners unable to attend Mass until her own illness. Some of her fondest work memories were at Wesley Homes in Des Moines, where she touched many lives and developed lifelong friendships. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Floro, and is survived by her children Jeanette (Joe), Cyndi, Gerry (Kathy), Larry (Gina), Eva and Eugene. She is survived by her sister Donna, 14 grandchil- dren, nine great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. We will all greatly miss her. A rosary prayer service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Bonney-Watson Memorial in Sea Tac. She will be laid to rest next to Floro on Friday the 24th at 12:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on June 25th at 9:00 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Des Moines, followed by a reception in the parish hall.
