Black Pendleton August 7, 1927-May 21, 2016 Hermiston April 25, 1940-April 26, 2016 Walla Walla Sept. 20, 1926-June 7, 2016 Eldon Kenneth Lilly passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at McKay Estates Assisted Living in Pendleton, Ore. He was born to William and Doris Lilly on August 7, 1927, in La Grande, Ore. In 1945, Eldon graduated from Boardman High School, Boardman, Ore. He was known for his athletic accomplishments at the state level during his time in high school and college. Eldon attended OSU in Corvallis, Ore. In 1946, he was drafted and served in the United States Army. After the Service, he Lilly entered Eastern Oregon College, La Grande, Ore., where he received his teaching certiicate and later received his Masters of Science Education through the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho. Eldon married Maxine (Ely) August 28, 1949, in Boardman, Ore. They lived in La Grande where Eldon taught at the elementary, junior and high schools over a span of 18 years. The family relocated to Pend- leton with their children, Jim, Jan, Jay, Jerry and Joyce, in 1967. Eldon retired in 1987 after over 30 years of teaching and coaching. He touched many lives through his dedication and passion for students to succeed in the classroom, on the football ield, basketball court, track, and in the Driver’s Ed program. He loved to hunt and ish with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to gardening and supporting his family in all their interests. He is survived by his chil- dren Jim Lilly (Kennewick, Wash.), Jan (Brett) Cook (Pendleton, Ore.), Jay (Donna) Lilly (Central Point, Ore.), Jerry Lilly (Boise, Idaho), and Joyce (Doug) Barak (Hermiston, Ore.); grandchil- dren Whitney Lilly, Paige Lilly, Holly (Blake) Starr, J.R. (Cynda) Cook, Jennifer (Dan) Fitch, Kristen (Ben) Kennedy, Dustin (Jamie) Lilly, Aubree Lilly, Jared Barak and Nathan Barak; great-grandchil- dren JR Starr, Connor Cook, Addyson Cook, Peyton Kennedy, Kinley Kennedy, Jaydon and Gage; and brothers Bob Lilly (Herm- iston, Ore.) and Richard (Barbra) Lilly (Yakima, Wash.). Eldon was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Maxine Lilly, and his parents. A graveside service for both Eldon and Maxine Lilly will be held on July 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. A Celebration of Life for both will take place at the Pendleton VFW Hall, 1221 S.E. Court Place, Pendleton, Ore., immediately following the graveside service. Arrangements are being handled by Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom- Bishop. Bonnie, as she was known to friends and family, was born on 25 April 1940, to Earl M. and Esther (Morris) Cook in Polk County, Oregon. Bonnie’s parents and three siblings left Kansas with all their possessions in two vehicles after loods and drought Ryals in 1935 and even- tually settled near Willamina in 1939. Esther used a dresser drawer as a cradle for Bonnie as a baby. Bonnie attended Fern School in irst grade with her sister, Anna Ruth Cook, as her teacher. She graduated from Willamina High School in 1958 and attended OCE in Monmouth, Ore. Bonnie had a long and distinguished career working for US Bank. She and her husband, Dave Ryals, lived in Hermiston, Oregon, for many years and loved to go boating on Wallowa Lake. Bonnie was preceded in death by Dave, after 29 years of marriage. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, her sister- in-law Mary Cook, and several dear friends. Bonnie was a sweet and gentle soul who will be truly missed. There will be a potluck memorial at her high school reunion on August 18 in Willamina, Ore. The public is invited. For more information call 503-838-2922.
