The local recreation vehicle dealer was recognized for the support it provides to the Pendleton community. The Main Street Cowboys hold the annual event to thank those supporting its bench program. The organization’s oficers, directors and volunteers who were instrumental in putting on the appre- ciation event include John Roberts, president/in-town director; Bill Arrington, irst vice president/parade director; Charles Coonield, second vice president/food vendor director; Michael Swanson, treasurer; Robert Harsh, secretary/parade director; Paul Gadiere, ofice manager/Main Street Show/carnival director; Kirt Skinner, bench/fund drive; Rod Theiss, Main Street Show/carnival director; Scott Adams, marketing director; Bill Zyph, social and special awards; Larry Koehne and Don Harsh, historian/publicity/newsletter; Johnny Blagg, craft vendor director; Dean Groshong, properties/tents; Alan Berck, building projects; and Mark D. Spon- sorships of $75-$149 ensures a bench goes out a minimum of 14-21 days; for $150-$399, benches go out as needed to fulill requests in addition to the 14-21 days around Round-Up; and for $400 and up, the benches go out each time a request is made, which is approximately 200 days each year. ENGAGEMENT Ternes-Alexenko Heather Ternes and Landon Alex- enko of Hermiston are announcing their engagement. Heather is the daughter of Dale and Shannon Ternes of Hermiston. She is a 2009 graduate of Hermiston High School and a 2013 graduate of Blue Mountain Community College. Landon is the son of Tom and Sheri Alexenko of Milton-Freewater. He graduated from Touchet (Wash.) High School in 2004. He also studied at Spokane Community College and Eastern Washington University. He is employed with the state of Oregon. The couple will exchange vows Oct. 15, 2016, at 4 p.m. at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds Rankin Pavilion in Hermiston. Fitzgerald. Chess Mates check out donation A recent donation from Northwest Farm Credit Services provides needed support to the Chess Mates, Heppner Elementary School’s chess club. Advisor Mary Ann Elguezabal was thrilled when she received a message from Meghan Golden, the credit union’s relationship manager and AVP Country Home Loans, saying the club was being awarded a $500 grant. Obedience class receives titles during recent dog show Members of the Pendleton Parks & Recreation dog obedi- ence class and their instructor received “atta boys” during the recent Walla Walla Kennel Club show. The group has been working with their dogs and received their obedience titles during the show, which was held April 30-May 1 at the Pendleton Convention Center. Instructor Julie Wunderlich was grateful for the opportunity. She expressed appreciation for the parks department for providing a place to practice, the convention center for hosting the show and the Round-Up and Happy Canyon associations for allowing the use of their facilities during the event. The students and their dogs include: Kim Lanier and Foster, Amy Grupa and Titan, Katie Wilson and Aspen, and Jennifer Heisler-Lieuallen and Oscar. In addition, Wunderlich received titles with two dogs, Molly and Kelly.
