Geier shot 87-82—169, and Pulver shot 80-89—169. “As a team effort I thought we really did well,” Nelson said. “The Summit coach and the Bend coach came over and said, ‘Good job,’ which was nice to hear from teams that keep beating us. “It was a good season. The Pioneers inished seventh as a team with 366-375—741, and junior Evan Kain was 24th with 88-96—184. Sophomore Noah Wilson was 28th with 94-95—189, freshman Kodi Leidenfrost was tied for 35th with 94-99—193, and senior Armando Garcia was 47th with 95-106—201. Both players started the round in the top 15, and Grieb inished 11th with a two-round score of 80-85—165 while Lankford was tied for sixteenth with 85-88—173. Heppner was 10th in team points with 394-408—802, and Nixyaawii was 13th with 428-403—831. Also for Heppner were: junior Dan Bretsch tied for 38th (90-98—188), freshman Reno Ferguson in 59th (106-110—216), freshman Cason Mitchell in 66th (118-115—233) and freshman Logan Burright tied for 68th (120- 117—237). Grant inished tied for eighth with 89-88—177, and the Mustangs placed fourth as a team with 409-404—813. Heppner junior Amanda Rea was 16th with 89-97— 186, and the Mustangs placed all of its golfers inside the top 50. Freshman Masion Combe was 28th (113-101—214), freshman Claire Grieb was 36th (118-118—236) and the combined score of junior Riane Dompier and freshman Caitlyn Scrivner was 44th (133-124—257). St. Mary’s rolled to the team title with three placers in the top ive, and shot a two-round 674. Softball ECHO 12, ENTER- PRISE 4 — At Echo, the Cougars clinched a spot in the 3A postseason tourna- ment by defeating the Enter- prise Outlaws in a district playoff game on Tuesday. The Cougars (19-7, 13-3 EOL) were able to rebound well in the game from Friday’s stunning double- header losses to Enterprise that dropped the team out of contention for the regular season crown, and pounded out 13 hits with their 12 runs. Echo pitcher MacKenzie Gonzales gave up three runs in the top of the irst inning, but settled in after that and inished with a complete game allowing six hits with three strikeouts. Gonzales was picked up by her offense in the bottom of the frame as the Cougars pounded out three runs of their own to tie the game at three. Enterprise again took the lead in the third inning with one run, but that would be it for the Outlaws as Gonzales allowed just ive baserunners over the inal four innings. The offense put forth a very balanced attack in the game, as ive players garnered at least two hits. Kenzie Blankenship crushed her seventh home run of the season and scored three runs in the game, while Hannah McCarty went a perfect 3-3 with two runs and an RBI. Cheyenne Hilliard also had a solid day, going 3-4 from her leadoff spot in the order with two runs and an RBI. Morrison was very appre- ciative of the award, but said that her and Richards earing the top honors is more of a relection of the team. “Both of us getting this shows how good of a team we are because it’s not like it’s just two or three players carrying the whole team,” she said. “This is hard to do without teammates, because my teammates motivate me and make sure I’m working hard.” Richards started the season as the Buckaroos No. 2 starter and out-pitched 2nd-team all-state pitcher Kiersten Murphy for the No. 1 spot as the season went along. Richards tossed 57.2 innings in CRC play and inished with a 0.97 ERA with 85 strikeouts to just 11 walks, while holding her opponents to a mere .135 batting average. Richards echoed Morri- son’s sentiment on receiving the honor, saying she owes it to her fellow Buckaroos. “It’s kind of odd because it’s an individual award, but I wouldn’t have got it without my teammates,” she said. Rounding out the irst team selections for Pend- leton are SS Ellie Richards (.366 avg., 9 RBI), 1B Kier- sten Murphy (.351 avg., 10 RBI), 3B Kalan McGlothan (.441 avg., 2 home runs), OF Maddie Parker (.414 avg., 12 runs), and UTIL Rylee Gentner (.400 avg., 11 RBI). Pendleton’s second team picks included 2B Payton Hergert (.360 avg., 4 doubles) and OF Tatum Fell (.235 avg., 2 RBI), while seniors Feather Dick and Gracie Lyon were named as honorable mentions. The Hermiston Bulldogs enjoyed an improved CRC season in 2016, improving from just one win last year to a 5-7 inish and a trip to the postseason. Hermiston was rewarded with 12 all-league selections, including three on the irst team: C Jaime Hinkley (.372 avg., 8 runs), 2B Ellery Jones (.486 avg., 9 RBI), and UTIL Mikayla Kopacz (.310 avg.,). Hermiston’s second team selections included P Julissa Almaguer (4-4, 4.90 ERA), P Breyanna Naylor (4.74 ERA, 3 saves), 3B Becca Engelbrecht (.308 avg., 2 home runs, 12 runs), OF Sydney Stefani (.242 avg., 3 runs), OF Kylie Hinkley (.269 avg.,), UTIL Amanda Barron (.333 avg.,), and UTIL Alex Barton (.364 OBP).
