RECORDS Tuesday, April 12, 2016 East Oregonian OBITUARIES DEATH NOTICES Wayne Richard Barber Caroline Jewell Beck William S. ‘Bill’ Bates Ukiah August 3, 1927-April 5, 2016 Pendleton April 8, 1933-April 2, 2016 Boardman Feb. 19, 1939-April 10, 2016 Wayne Richard Barber, 88, of Ukiah died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in La Grande, Oregon. He was born August 3, 1927, in Steamboat 6SULQJV &RORUDGR WKH ¿IWK child of William and Maggie (Hughes) Barber. The family moved to Oregon when Wayne was three years old, settling LQ 6WDQ¿HOG ZKHUH Wayne attended school. In 1946, Wayne joined his brother James in Ukiah to work on a ranch. He married Elizabeth Ann Sheff in July of 1950, and the couple had four Barber children. Except for a brief time in Central Point, Oregon, Wayne lived in Ukiah for the rest of his life. He worked on local ranches for several years, and then worked in the logging industry. He loved his time in the woods. In 1970, Wayne took a job with the Oregon Department of Transportation, held until his retirement in 1989. Wayne enjoyed everything RXWGRRUV ¿VKLQJ KXQWLQJ and camping. He pulled his kids and their friends in his boat as they learned to water ski. He was accomplished at wood working and gardening. He enjoyed caring for his home and lawn. Until recently, Wayne remained active, riding his bicycle or walking nearly every day. Wayne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Bettie) of Ukiah; four chil- dren, Arla (Paul Gammond) of Pendleton, Don (Judy) of Heppner, Clint (Norma) of Ukiah and Pamela (James Steinke) of Terrebonne; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Ethel and brother Earl. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Opal and Clemma, and brother James. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016, at 2:00 in the afternoon at the Ukiah School gymnasium in Ukiah, Oregon. Interested persons may attend viewings at the Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom- Bishop in Pendleton, Oregon, on Wednesday, April 13, 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ,Q OLHX RI ÀRZHUV donations may be made in Wayne’s name to either the Ukiah Senior Center or the Ukiah Cemetery Fund, through the City of Ukiah RI¿FH Following the service, the family will provide a late luncheon. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.pioneerchapel.com Keith Glenn Livesay Pendleton October 15, 1958-April 2, 2016 Keith Glenn Livesay of Pend- leton, Ore., passed away at home on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, at the age of 57. Keith was born on October 15, 1958, in Salem, Ore., to Glenn and Judith (Fenner) Livesay. He attended school in Woodburn, Ore., then The Dalles, Ore., where he made many of his Livesay lifelong friends. He met a lot of people through his passion for baseball. After moving to Pendleton he continued to play baseball on the Oregon Outlaws over-40 team; he played softball on several men’s and co-ed teams, and volleyball, too, as well as coaching all four of his sons’ baseball teams, helping his daughter’s softball teams and coaching her in volleyball. He made it a priority to be at every game he possibly could for all of the kids. He could usually be found pacing the RXW¿HOGIHQFHOLQH\HOOLQJDW WKHRXW¿HOGHUVWREHUHDG\ Keith is survived by his former wife Anne Livesay; Friday, April 8 Caroline was instru- mental in she and Phil buying and re-building WKHLU ¿UVW KRPH DQG ODWHU in buying, rebuilding or remodeling, then renting and maintaining their several rental properties. Caroline and Phil were members of the Pendleton Pres- byterian Church. Caroline is survived by her sisters Catherine Brown and Teri Hahn and brothers Robert Fullerton and Ronald Fullerton; sons Phillip Beck Jr. (Stephany) and David Beck (Dona); daughter Linda Peterson; grandchildren Laresa Beck- Pegg, Ginger Beck, Brian Beck, Jeremy Lundquist, Caroline Whalley, Alissa Peterson, Candace Jurado and Tera Ryun; and 10 great-grandchildren (with #11 on the way). She was preceded in death by her husband Phil; parents Donald (Bud) and Jewell; brother Leroy Fullerton; sisters Patty Kinkead and Donna Ring; and grandson Flint Beck. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop. Internment at Skyview Memorial Cemetery will follow the service. Caroline was born April 8, 1933, in Pendleton to Donald Fullerton and Jewell (Elder) Fullerton. A lifelong Pendleton resident, Caroline married Phillip D. Beck, a marriage which lasted almost 65 years, ending only with Phil’s passing in February of 2015. She was a home- maker, mother, custom ladies- wear seamstress, M o n t g o m e r y Beck Wards sales clerk, and St. Anthony’s Medicare billing clerk for many years until retiring to relax with her husband Phil on an acreage outside of town. Caroline especially enjoyed time with family at her home; their moun- tain cabin; on the Oregon coast; and visiting various family members. She loved gardening, craftwork like quilting, stitching, knitting and sewing, along ZLWK UH¿QLVKLQJ DQWLTXH furniture. She was also an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting and had started doing pottery. Very active, Caroline especially enjoyed water skiing and spent time horseback riding and on her mountain bike, as well as hunting and ¿VKLQJRQRFFDVLRQDQGMXVW driving in the mountains. She tried bird hunting as a young lady with her brother Bob, but couldn’t get over being startled by rooster pheasants rising almost underfoot! Elaine Elizabeth Belts sons Eric Lyle, Jon Lyle, Tyler Livesay and Tanner Livesay; daughter Allison Livesay; a brother, Joe Livesay; a sister, Colleen Livesay; and grandson Kanin Lyle. Elaine was active in many organizations in the course of her life: Dirt Dabblers Garden Club, Pendleton Garden Club, Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, National Council of State Garden Clubs, D-10’s Flower Arrangers Guild, Pendleton Women’s Club, Pendleton Woman’s Club Bridge Club, Order of Eastern Star, Pendleton Emblem Club, Pendleton Emblem Club, Pendleton Eagles Auxiliary and the Pendleton Presbyterian Church. She also was a veteran of World War II. She is survived by one daughter, Robin Gibbs of Oxford, Florida. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Dirt Dabblers Garden Club, Pendleton.
